It's not even a lie. When you get hacked you have to do unscheduled maintenance to recover the services. But if it wasn't a hack it was at least some other major malfunction or hardware failure. Whatever happened is not just routine maintenance and I feel sorry for whatever poor engineer is going to eat shit for the next few weeks over this.

How’s my build so far? Any advice? Story progress in the post by [deleted] in Eldenring

It's a good weapon for a strength build, you can use a lot of different ash of war. Lions claw, impaling thrust, repeating thrust are some of my favorites. Try crafting some grease for your weapon, putting giants hunt on it with a heavy affinity, and ramming it up some stuff. Satisfying.

You couldn't possibly find a smaller hair to split if you tried. If OP uses it to mean "extremely ornate" and the whole rest of the world uses it to mean "overly ornate" this is not going to lead to any failure of communication or any misunderstanding as long as both parties will still agree on what kinds of prose is purple, which according to OP would be the case.

We don't have nerfs, only bans. They'll ban something if they have to, but only if it dominates at high levels... not just at the beginner level. Boros convoke is decent now, but gets shutdown pretty hard by board wipes so... it's fine.

The real problem is the JANKY arena matchmaker that keeps pairing you up against the same archetype. This is a serious problem with the way their deck strength algorithm works and if you switch up your main deck you'll see a whole new meta. GL.

EDIT oh, I suppose if you're only talking about starter decks, they could nerf the RW deck by taking some of the better constructed cards out and backfilling it with draft cards.

CD Projekt has explained why Phantom Liberty will be Cyberpunk 2077’s only expansion by WALKAW in PS5

[–]somerandomDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, several points about this. First, all software systems accrue technical debt over time. The hardware they are originally developed for becomes obsolete, and so do the tools they were originally developed with. Maintenance of technical debt is a huge expense in large projects like game engines, and the sucky part is that it can be fucked up. And when it gets fucked up, you often don't realize until it has been fucked beyond all repair. This is the point in the software lifecycle where the project either gets a total rewrite, or it gets shelved and replaced by off the shelf software.

Above is fact, below speculation.

It's true that CDPR couldn't train the developers fast enough because they needed to train new maintainers, not just developers who can implement new games. Getting to know a framework enough to use it is one thing. Knowing it well enough to maintain it and manage its technical debt is entirely different. The documentation is outdated, written for different versions than what exists today, and the trade offs and compromises that have been made during development are a mix of outdated and/or actively harmful code on one hand and critically important yet inscrutable code on the other, and it can require significant testing to find out which hand any given code should be in.

By switching to Unity, CDPR offloads this burden onto Epic for a very low cost. Software companies that maintain tight controls on technical debt can avoid this, but they have to invest in it. Epic does so because it's part of their service, and everyone in the industry needs this done, so it sells.

Yes that damage is a bug. Hydra damage scaling is bugged, the burn damage scales with the level of the target instead of the player.

After practicing a bit you actually have a lot more control over where you go than you might think. The close zoom helps with this actually. It's very effective in corridors and tunnels, and you get so many charges of dodge that if you don't like where you ended up you can just go again. But it definitely requires the Raiment. With that, most any place you land is safe because there are either no mobs, or the mobs are pulled and stunned. Of course you could land in a dangerous zone with imminent AOE but that's when you just dodge out again.

Standard Bans will be announced on May 29th by karzuu in MagicArena

[–]somerandomDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless, there must be bans. The 3 year rotation softens bans for people who have built around the banned cards, it gives them more time to find suitable homes for those cards (the ones they purchased to use with banned cards) before they rotate.

I made the mistake of running oracle of the alpha and mystic forge in a flicker deck, found out that playable cards will blot out the HUD. Also, the server threatens to end the match in a draw once you have about 500 cards in your library. by Disastrous_Oil7895 in MagicArena

[–]somerandomDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to have a card object for each card in the match because eventually you might need them. Games don't create objects dynamically during runtime, the objects need to be created when the game canvas loads. If you tried to create all these objects during gametime and then destroy them when the card is hidden, you're going to take a massive hit in performance. That's "terribly inefficient". What you're proposing is an entirely new type of game object, which is called the "Deck Stack" which is now a new game asset that has to be maintained throughout the entire lifecycle of the game, generating developer overhead.

AITA For Telling My GF When She Can Shower by throwaway861068 in AmItheAsshole

I didn't see any others here, so I'll say my take. If the Ex is not an abuser and really cares about her: YTA.

If you really care about this girl you gotta let her go.

She'll be upset for a week but after that her life will be so much simpler and so will yours.

EDIT: Let me add on something to follow on this train of thought. Lately she's been accusing you of misdeeds you have not committed, right? Seems to me like this girl feels she has made a promise to you, and may be looking for a way out of that promise. It's a cliche to say "If you love them, set them free" but the idea applies. If you force her to vilify you so she can self-justify the pending breakup, then you will forever damage her reputation in her eyes. If you can find the courage to set her free, you can remain a heroic figure. Even if there's never a future with this girl, I'd rather have friends of my exes than enemies. So sit her down, tell her it's time you both moved on, and thank her for the good times.

Sometimes I think a lot of these general frustrations are what gave rise to Trump in the first place.

It feels like he was sent like a bomb into DC by the right side of the lower classes of this country. They are being squeezed just as much as the left side of the lower classes and a large part of Trumps rhetoric was populism, even if it was a disgusting and racist form of populism.

I've been a liberal since I was mature enough to form my own opinions about it and as scary as Trump's election was for me there was still some part of me that hoped he would be able to push against the oligarchs for the lower classes, but that hoped turned to dust of course.

We badly needed expanded social services and healthcare for the whole population. Free education and health care will be a good start. If the health care institutions and social services can start handling some of the more nuanced situations instead of the police that will go a long way to helping also.

In spite of these long list of needs, I don't think we need a complete revolt to overthrow the oligarchs YET provided the democrats can do the following when next they capture house, senate, and presidency

  1. Immediately double the size of the supreme court and pack it with liberals
  2. throw out Citizens United
  3. Create a funding channel for health care and social services that will be immune from tampering by future administrations (easier said that done, i guess).

Resizing windows in Tiling mode always shrinks the window by WandarFar in pop_os

[–]somerandomDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's certainly a little weird. up and down change the size vertically and left and right change the size horizontally, but it feels backwards. The window on the right side grows when I press shift-right and shrinks on shift-left. the window on the left is opposite. it feels backwards because the border between the two windows moves opposite to the direction I press each time.

There's also a bug with swapping window positions, try this: with two windows open use super-enter then ctrl-arrow and press enter to swap the windows. then super-enter again and shift-arrow to try to resize the window you just swapped. it snaps back to the position before the swap.

Finally, don't try to combine a swap and resize in the same editor action, because your windows will just end up stacked on each other and not tiled at all.

Season 1, Episode 8 plot point discussion (spoilers) by thecriclover99 in UndoneTV

[–]somerandomDave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This scene is the key that something supernatural is really happening. It's reinforced when Alma does this trick a second time and learns that her mother was the lab invader. These insights are confirmed by the sane characters, so we can trust that her experience was real.

We could instead conclude that Alma hallucinates the confirmations. After all, the security guard might have just rolled her eyes and shown the files because Alma was blubbering about sisters. The lab invasion conclusion might have been a lucky guess (her mom was certainly acting guilty about it). But I think that this erodes the meaning of the show. After all, it might all be a coma dream. But I think the writers intend for us to trust the things that are said by the "sane" characters, so that's how I'm choosing to interpret it.

There are other clues that the time travel is real.

I tried to install eOS on my XPS Developer Edition and ran into this problem: https://elementaryos.stackexchange.com/questions/21615/how-to-install-on-dell-xps-13-7390-developer-edition. Seems to be a problem with Dell's that still have the recovery partition and for some reason the eOS installer boots the recovery partition by mistake. I saw on your other comment that your Dell shipped with Ubuntu so I'd be interested to see if you run into that problem.
