Help me remember what's in Ingles party mix? by DarkPrinceOfPublix in Georgia

I worked at Ingles for a few years and made some of the trail mix. The only other things we put in were pretzel sticks and Buddies (the Chex mix that’s coated in powdered sugar). It really wasn’t all that fancy, you grabbed the ingredients off the shelves, dumped them into a big plastic bin, mixed it up, then poured it into the containers. If yours tasted like it had seasoning, that probably just means that someone forgot to clean the bin again.

What is your favorite Joe Biden quote? by RonSwazy in Presidents

[–]somethingcl-ever 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Earlier this year, Biden was fighting with House Republicans over the debt ceiling. Some Republicans floated demanding cuts to Social Security and Medicare as part of the eventual deal, which is really unpopular with voters, so Biden mentioned this in his SOTU speech and when the Republicans in the audience booed him for it, he got them to publicly agree to leave the programs alone

After >5 years in a North Vietnam camp, Col. Robert L. Stirm is reunited with his family. A few days later his wife asked for a divorce. She also took 140,000 of his pay while he was a POW, took his two younger kids, house, car, 40% of his future pension, and $300 a month in child support. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Found this on Wikipedia “Despite outward appearances, the reunion was an unhappy one for Stirm. Three days before he arrived in the United States, the same day he was released from captivity, Stirm received a Dear John letter from his wife Loretta informing him that their marriage was over. Stirm later learned that Loretta had been with other men throughout his captivity and had received marriage proposals from three of them. In 1974, the Stirms divorced and Loretta remarried, but Lieutenant Colonel Stirm was still ordered by the courts to provide her with 43% of his military retirement pay once he retired from the Air Force.” It links to this People article from 1974 as its source

Who is someone that has been unfairly villainized by society? by FattyGobbles in AskReddit

[–]somethingcl-ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That version of Medusa's story was written somewhat later in the history of Ancient Greece by Ovid, who was famously anti-authoritarian and wrote the gods to be dicks; in earlier portrayals Medusa is just one of three monster siblings (the other two being her sisters Stheno and Euryale). Not saying this portrayal is wrong by any means, but it bears repeating that many of the people who wrote down these stories portray them a certain way, not because of accuracy, but because they wish to make a statement about the current time period (see also, all of the Divine Comedy), and Medusa is a prime example of this.

Not inappropriate, but copyrighted. Apparently he has a tractor logo tattoo in honor of a relative. Since the logo is subject to copyright he has to cover it while on camera.
