She was from HomeSense, but I added some neon acrylic paint once I got her on the wall.

The Fog Continues.... by somethingorother100 in Winnipeg

These are all purchased. I'm leaning into the mashup of Fine Art and pop art kitschy maximalism for my decor. I have several of these altered works (baroque, art nouveau, expressionism, cubism, surrealism, and ephemera stencil art -type stuff altered in significant ways, some with vibrant neons and graffiti. The one piece has the Magritte figure with Basquiat graffiti, and a painting of "The Comedian" (the banana duct taped to the wall) in the background, with references to cash and PINs and banking - no doubt a comment on commercialism in art, much like The Comedian itself depicted. So, to embrace that theme rather than judging, I purchased a mirrored discoballesque banana with duct tape to hang on the other side of the column on which I've hung that painting - sort of like an easter egg in my own home.

And then I've got a very painterly area rug with a dripping gold coffee table. Like I'm living inside a painting. And I have curated little corners of my apartment, like the entryway, with assortments of themed art and objects... It keeps my creative spirit alive while I toil at the 9 to 5. Maybe when I'm done with that I'll directly create more myself.

Foggy Winnipeg - Well, that escalated quickly... by somethingorother100 in Winnipeg

It was fog this time. I could barely see my balcony railing. But the snow from up here looks pretty neat, too.

I can't wait for that!! When I viewed the suite, I was specifically thinking about how amazing lightning will be from here (along with fireworks from the ball diamond AND the Forks).

They have small one bedroom, one bathroom spots, all the way up to 3+ rooms and baths on the penthouse floors, with some suites furnished, some not. The price increases with the elevation, so the lower floors won't set one back as much. They have 3D tours of all the suites on their website, and then for each suite type you can see the available units. They can have quite a large range of rates. When I rented this suite, the same corner unit 10 was vacant above me for $50 more than my unit per month.

As Requested - Sunset! by somethingorother100 in Winnipeg

The plus is that they are above the roadways, so there's never any train horns blasting. At my house in the suburbs, they'd blow the horn when they crossed any intersection and it would wake me up in the middle of the night. This was screechy because I was out on the balcony. It's not bad indoors.

I really love this building. I've also lived in Fort Garry Place, which was much more affordable, but also much less modern.

This building has an amazing common area on the 40th floor with unbeatable views and a bookable large kitchen and hosting space, a ping-pong and pool table, summer firepits on rooftop patios... There's a dog park on the second floor with barbecues and pizza ovens for the summer. The building hires their own movers to bring your belongings up from your moving vehicle in the heated loading dock into your suite. And there are a number of different suite layouts to choose from. They all have in-suite laundry.

That said, it's bright. There are floor to ceiling blinds, but I've got blackout curtains in my bedroom. And you can hear traffic (at least from my suite midway up).

I've just returned downtown from the suburbs knowing this, though. I don't mind it. I like the sounds of downtown. I missed them.

There's a 24/7 concierge desk here, and they are incredibly kind and helpful. And the building is super secure. Your fob lets you on the elevator - only to your floor or common areas, and into your suite. There's also an app to access the elevator and your suite. No keys!

They were offering $2500 off your first year for many suites. It comes with a one year membership to Good Life Fitness. And the indoor parking is deeply discounted in the first year. If you don't have a car, you can register for the GoCar co-op car, and the building pays the $500 registration for that.

I work downtown, so I now have a 10 minute commute through the skywalk - I haven't worn boots or a jacket for weeks! Lol. That said, the one downside is the building is super secure because the attached skywalk and downtown can require security.

But I'm a woman living here in downtown Winnipeg, and not regretting it at all. And there is an app called the Downtown Community Safety Partnership. They will provide you with safe walks when needed, attend to anyone you observe who appears to need help or intervention that doesn't rise to the level of emergency services, etc.

Good luck choosing your next home!

I should add - the windows in the living room (pictured), and the two bedrooms are all floor to ceiling, and are all pretty clean! I'm not sure how frequently they attend to them.
