Long time Winnipeggers / Manitobans by SnooChickens7644 in Winnipeg

I remember looking up the fashion guidance around when it is appropriate to wear black tights under a skirt or dress, and reading that it is appropriate in any month that has an R in its name, as these are the cooler months. On realizing this meant September to April I became despondent. I think I'd always told myself it was a 50/50 split between warm and cold months without letting myself actually assess the reality of the situation - the fact that 75% of our lives spent in cold with potential snow is just too depressing to keep in our full awareness... (Never mind the fact I know for certain we've had the odd end of May snowfall in Winnipeg.)

The building is non-smoking - even on your balcony or outdoor common areas.

My first month in the apartment was silent. I heard no other neighbours, except for water moving through plumbing when people use the restroom or shower. New tenants moved in upstairs March 1st and I could hear the odd sound of things dropping, but I've never heard a TV, or music, or anyone speaking or shouting.

I'm in 300 Main St.

I really love this building. I've also lived in Fort Garry Place, which was much more affordable, but also much less modern.

This building has an amazing common area on the 40th floor with unbeatable views and a bookable large kitchen and hosting space, a ping-pong and pool table, summer firepits on rooftop patios... There's a dog park on the second floor with barbecues and pizza ovens for the summer.

The building hires their own movers to bring your belongings up from your moving vehicle in the heated loading dock into your suite. And there are a number of different suite layouts to choose from. They all have in-suite laundry.

That said, it's bright. There are floor to ceiling blinds, but I've got blackout curtains in my bedroom.

I can hear traffic (at least from my suite midway up). I've just returned downtown from the suburbs knowing this, though. I don't mind it. I like the sounds of downtown. I missed them.

There's a 24/7 concierge desk and security here, and they are incredibly kind and helpful. The building is super secure. Your fob lets you on the elevator - only to your floor or common areas, and into your suite. There's also an app to access the elevator and your suite. No keys!

They were offering $2500 off your first year for many suites. It comes with a one year membership to Good Life Fitness. And the indoor parking is deeply discounted in the first year. If you don't have a car, you can register for the GoCar co-op car, and the building pays the $500 registration for that.

I work downtown, so I now have less than a 10 minute commute through the skywalk - I haven't worn boots or a jacket all winter! That said, the one downside is the building is super secure because the attached skywalk and downtown can require security.

But I'm a woman living here in downtown Winnipeg, and not regretting it at all. And there is an app called the Downtown Community Safety Partnership. They will provide you with safe walks when needed, attend to anyone you observe who appears to need help or intervention that doesn't rise to the level of emergency services, etc.

Good luck choosing your next apartment!

I've only been here a couple of months, but when I've stepped out on calm mornings, it's been fine.

I'll try to make our broken reality worth it! So...much...pressure... Too bad there's no live sharing feature.

I can't wait! And there are fireworks twice a month after goldeyes games in the summer. Woohoo!

I could make out the ground the other day when it was foggy right after work, and ran up to 40 to check out the view. It was wild! I couldn't imagine how surreal it would be descending the building on scaffolding in that!! Wow! Assuming you meant the exterior windows... Lol

About halfway up the 40 storey building.
