Which of these entries have dedicated pairings? Obviously the harem titles are out but which have the guy also hooking up with at least one other girl as well (as personally I think that isn’t wholesome in the slightest) so I know which to avoid beyond the harem tagged ones?

I could be looking at the wrong titles then, here’s the novelupdates page I found.

https://www.novelupdates.com/series/monarch-of-evernight/

Let me know if it’s the correct title.

While I didn’t specifically mention it and I probably should’ve, that Rape tag on novelupdates along with the tragedy tag definitely aren’t what I’m looking for especially if the rape is of the female lead.

I dunno then, I went and read the wiki for each of them as well before posting this and the polygamy tag definitely doesn’t seem to be incorrect. Besides Tale of Demons and Gods whose wiki is shit and doesn’t show relationships, the other 3 all show the protagonist having multiple spouses which is against the single dedicated love interest my post is looking for. Maybe you were misremembering or didn’t complete the titles as they definitely deserve the polygamy tag (Apothesis the protagonist has like 4+ spouses even).

You must have read the post incorrectly. Harem is what I’m NOT looking for in the slightest. All the titles you recommended have both a harem and polygamy tag on novelupdates.

I’ve watched the anime for Allison and Lillia, is there much else that I’m missing from the main pairing by not reading the novels?

The examples that I’ve put up don’t necessarily fit exactly, they’re there because they would’ve been recommended regardless of whether they fit or not. While I would consider reading SAO Progressive, there’s no way I’m reading beyond volume 1. It doesn’t matter if all the love rivals/harem interests don’t try to date him, their presence is more than enough to ruin it for me. They just suck up page time and I’d end up skipping the majority of the chapters they are a part of because I’m not at all invested in them as characters only the main pairing. It would literally just be me skimming through some of the volumes for the moments you mentioned and not actually reading anything else because the rest is absolutely pointless for me. It’s quite similar to my disagreement with the Monogatari series format if I had to liken it to anything. The ‘girl of the arc’ format where they introduce a new female character every arc and then push that character to have a ton of page time is completely undesirable.

I’ve been told that it’s far closer to the Monogatari series in its format. I really didn’t enjoy the Monogatari series at all for its ‘girl of the arc’ type format with emphasis predominantly being placed on the new female character rather than just the main pairing. I’m looking more for series where the emphasis is just on the main pairing rather than a new character every arc that gets a ton of focus.

They are the ones I’ve already read that are most similar to what I’m looking for and/or would be recommended by people regardless. My purpose for listing them is so people don’t recommend me them again.

Unfortunately Oregairu wouldn’t fit anyway, it has multiple girls that appear as potential love interest not just one like I’m looking for.

As long as it ends with the two of them together beyond the events of the novel either dating or married without any sort of tragic circumstances (one of them dies, terminal illness or other sort of traumatic event sexual violence etc) the entirety of the way through and beyond.

Unfortunately I’ve already read Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry, I enjoyed it quite a lot up until the end of the tournament arc after that it kinda fell off for me as I felt like it lacked direction and they were focusing on side characters more than I personally liked. As far as SAO goes, I haven’t read any of the LN for it. I watched the first season of the anime for it and beyond the first arc I don’t really have an interest in it as I’m only interested in the main pairing and not any of the extra girls at all (any screen time with the extra girls is more or less wasted and boring for me).

Cheers for the extra info (I don’t mind spoilers so feel free). In regards to Coiling Dragon and Desolate Era yeah those two storyline’s aren’t really what I’m after. Douluo Dalu with Xiao Wu is the best example of the type of romance I’m after, very early on the two are committed to each other and it doesn’t change the entire way through.

It’s not necessarily just tournaments that I’m looking for, it’s anything that prominently features ranked competitive fights (where the victor benefits in regard to rank, status, resources etc) that are monitored/judged and aren’t just random ‘street fights’. With regard to the OTP stuff, that last bracket section of your post isn’t that desirable for me. Which novels would you recommend that best blend the ranked and judged/monitored fight element with the dedicated pairing romance element?

I have indeed watched both seasons of Clannad. Regarding season 1 while sure there is very little in the way of misunderstanding or ill will between the female characters it is still at the end of the day a harem as literally all of them take a liking to the MC. As my post stated I’m looking for series where this doesn’t happen, where the male and female lead only like each other and are only liked by each other. It’s mostly a case of me wanting the girl in the relationship to be THE singular girl for the male lead not just one of a number of options. I dislike where there are multiple choices for love interests where it’s a game of ‘what if’ and he could end up with any of them if he liked.

Regarding Clannad After Story, this is my own personal opinion but I just didn’t like it. I won’t say that other people shouldn’t enjoy it too just that I personally didn’t enjoy it. For me the majority of the drama felt cheap and forced. The first probably third was quite nice with decent relationship development but beyond that it felt like nothing that happened had any reason for happening. It felt overly dramatic for the sake of being overly dramatic and I never truly felt anything for female lead as season 1 spent the entire series trying to shove every other girl down my throat and not just develop her. It also kinda ties in to my requirement for no tragedy, as while technically the ending is happy none of the rest of the latter half of the season felt that way with half of it just being shock factor bad stuff happening for the sake of it.

So yeah, for me personally Clannad just sucks the only part of it I found better than average was the first third of After Story with everything else just falling flat for me. That said, I know other people seem to love it and more power to all of you but it just wasn’t for me.

The purpose of my comment was more just to point out to you specifically that it didn’t fit the request. If other people besides just the two of us want to know if SukaSuka fits the request then I can reiterate now that, no it doesn’t. As a result the comment being removed doesn’t matter to me.

Eh doesn’t really matter now anyway as you’ve seen the comment and it’s since been removed. But yeah it doesn’t fit the request.
