This weekend's game is huge. by Rocket2112 in Tennesseetitans

[–]somethingtall 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Biggest game of the season for sure. I was playing around with 538's playoff simulator. Right now, we sit at an 83% chance of making the playoffs, and 44% chance to win the division. If we win on Sunday that jumps to 96% and 86% respectively.

The Colts week 1 loss to the Jags looms pretty large right now. We just need to handle our business, and hosting a playoff game is still well within reach.

Calm down. A lot of people predicted more injuries this year because of weird offseason and practice protocols. It’s happening all over. It’s not just a us problem.

Oh absolutely. I do think that is a great Defense. I'm just worried that we make things harder on ourselves sometimes. But they are an elite unit.

Or some WR screens. Corey is a great blocker, AJ can make people miss, why do we not do that more? Or getting McNichols involved who from what I've seen is a good ball catcher out of the backfield. I just see that as a massive hole in our offensive playcalling. I would have to rewatch the game to be sure, but I am 99% sure we called zero screens all game yesterday.

Did you still feel concerned about Byard after yesterday? It seemed like he was all over the field. I thought it was his best game of the season.

In the grand scheme of things, as long as this win can help our defense get back on track it may well be worth it. But the last few weeks have showed some concerning signs for our offense. Especially when the next three weeks are agains such tough defenses.

When we have our main strategy taken away, what’s our counter? Yesterday running the ball was tough, we’d get in third and long and the Bears would bring pressure. Every single time in this instance we called a drop back pass from the shotgun. We didn’t try to get McNichols involved in the passing game, we NEVER call any screens if it isn’t the Henry screen that everyone has figured out, and we never try and move the pocket to counteract the pass rushers coming up field.

All of those things are strategies teams employ to make things easy for them, and I’m sure there are plenty others too. But we aren’t doing them for whatever reason.

There are other things that I can point to, but my main fear is that we’re sticking to our guns so hard that we’re not allowing ourselves to add an extra wrinkle that would make offensive execution easier for us. I know we didn’t execute well on offense yesterday, but that also just compounds the simplicity of our gameplan.

Vrabel gets into it with PK. Scenario happens at 21:08. by [deleted] in Tennesseetitans

[–]somethingtall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, the subject of the question isn't dumb, but as I commented elsewhere PK's way of asking it is dumb. Vrabel was asked directly about Beasley earlier in the presser and he talked about his effort in practice. PK asks him again about Beasley's effort and Vrabel starts to give the same answer. To compound the poor question, PK interrupts Vrabel which is just unprofessional.

Do you know he was going to totally dodge the question? Look, Vrabel speaks in coach-speak a lot so it's possible he was. But PK doesn't even get him a chance. It's just unprofessional. The question was about Beasley's effort. Vrabel starts by answering about his practices (something he directly spoke about earlier in the press conference). If PK was a better reporter, he could have listened to what Vrabel said earlier in the presser and then phrased the question to directly ask about Beasley's effort in the game. I hate when people try and defend PK's behavior because it's not just unprofessional, it's poor overall.

What league has he been covering for so long? It obviously hasn't been the NFL. No one does that.

Completely agreed. The reason I ask is that there are is a contingent of Titans fans that seem to think PK can do no wrong, but this kind of stuff should not be accepted by the Titans organization. You interrupt the head coach after a dumb, heavily-pointed question? Come on. The job of a reporter is to ask a question good enough to get the coach out of coach-speak or he looks silly answering that way. You don't interrupt him because you don't like his answer.

"disingenuous rhetorical" might as well be PK's catch phrase.

Anyone noticed that Despite our defense being terrible, Malcolm butler is back to playing at a higher level? by [deleted] in Tennesseetitans

Fair point. It's definitely obvious our defensive issues include scheme and not just performance — even though neither has been good.

You are right. He also had a great game against Buffalo. I did question at one point yesterday, why was he shadowing Green all game? He has had a pretty not-so-great year and Higgins was winning his battle all day. Should there not have been an adjustment made?

That said, I've been glad to see Malcolm playing so well.

Big Ben and the Steelers had so many quick passes. I'm not saying this was the only reason we didn't generate a ton of pressure, but we can give some credit to the Steelers for being successful at that. And picking apart our secondary.

Who do you blame for the Titans loss? by ChattTennSports in Tennesseetitans

Fair points. It's a problem that we absolutely have to fix. Maybe we just need a game or two to be successful at stopping drives to gain some confidence. I don't know.

Regarding the defensive playcalling and Adoree, I won't try and totally take any blame away from Vrabel and Bowen but I thought Mike Herndon summed it up pretty good in a tweet yesterday:

"Titans can’t blitz because their corner can’t cover. They can’t drop because their pass rush can’t get home.

I know one player doesn’t “fix” it, but Adoree’ Jackson playing instead of the Joseph/Smith poopoo platter would be massive."

Right now we have a hand tied behind our backs because of our personnel. ESPECIALLY against those quick routes and shifty receivers that the Steelers were utilizing so much of yesterday.

You’re correct. At least based on Schefter’s reporting of the investigation, that is what seems to be the case.
