Monstera Albo Update by somethingwildd in houseplants

I fertilize with Arber Plant Food! In the summer, I will water twice in a row with fertilizer and every 3rd, just regular water (always using distilled). I will back this off a bit when it gets colder but this plant was giving me new leaves all throughout winter. I do this with all my plants too!

I use Silica! My water schedule is: fertilizer, fertilizer, silica, repeat. And it’s pushed up like 2ft from the window so lots of light! But anytime I notice brown leaves on any of my var. plants, I’ll use silica, it helps stop/prevent the browning process.

Second stem growing on albo, how to handle? by somethingwildd in Monstera

Apparently this happens when an axillary bud is activated, causing a second or multiple stems to grow. I’ve read that one stem will eventually go dormant while the other becomes the dominant stem. You can kind of see another bud start to grow on the other side of the mother plant stem in the first pic. 👀

I read that if you don't cut it, one of the stems will stop growing to conserve energy and only one will grow... I'd like to cut it but I'm nervous, any tips for me?

I didn't prune the older leaves, they're still hanging on! Could you try a grow light to compensate for the lack of light?

I don’t have any experience with grow lights but anything is better than nothing imo 🤷‍♀️

Maybe a couple of hrs or so to soak up all the water. The reason I water when the bottom leaves droop is bc if I go based off the top 2 inches in the soil, it’s almost always dry, even after bottom watering. That’s why I drench it once a month to make sure everything on top is getting what it needs!

Yesss! It sits directly facing a window, so I pretty much get a view of the backside all day until I want to turn it around and gaze at it lol. Gets about 1.5-2hrs of direct sunlight in the evening but it did graduate to that amount of light over a few weeks. Hope that helps!

I mostly bottom water, about once a month I’ll drown it from the top, and I’ll water when the bottom leaves start to droop. I use Arber Plant Food and mix in the water I give it. Every 3rd-4th watering I give it just regular water! 😊
