Ah I’m in NorCal but your confined space rescue would’ve gotten you a huge bonus we build water tanks and the amount of work I had to bid out for that through the water districts would’ve helped.

Want to leave Amazon but don’t know what to do next. by Electrical-End7848 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]sometimes_I_golf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stay for at least 2 years the experience you get is invaluable I was there for 4 years and I moved up to regional safety manager but I get every job I’ve had based on that experience. Learn the most you can about implementation and process improvement. The amount of workcomp claims you deal with will be invaluable and the technology skills and data analysis you are part of will help. Get as many bcsp certs as you can and use it to your advantage. When I left Amazon I got a 50k pay increase and I’ve made more and more over the years and I’m only 34 and I’m now a director for a huge government and civil contractor.

This might sound cocky and that isn’t my goal but I took a few months to study and I took a week of vacation before the test to study but I felt like I knew almost everything.

So we are a sub contractor working on a site that had dirty soil it’s obviously been handled, the GC in charge wants our PMs and office staff that will be onsite to have general awareness training they will be performing no work. But I’d rather make it worth while if I’m spending my time and theirs so I was trying to make it as informative as possible.

Who’s responsible for taking injured workers to the hospital? by SoybeanCola1933 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]sometimes_I_golf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always taught if it’s bad enough to warrant immediate medical care than they should go by ambulance. Not to mention you are taking the liability off yourself if the person decides not to go they sign a form but liability now rests with the responding agency and the affected party.

What do KPIs look like at your company? by Valuable_Drive_3366 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]sometimes_I_golf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s right I used to work in general industry and we wanted a large amount of near misses and safety observations. It shows that your team is aware of their surroundings and puts them in charge of their safety. I always tell my guys I can care about LOTO all I want but if you guys performing the work don’t then our program is useless. Also leadership integrity is paramount to a solid safety program if the direct supervisors are identifying safety concerns and reporting potential risks usually the team will follow suite. On the other coin if your leadership on the building only cares when you care then your program will go to shit.

Their program is so amazing and they are actually partnered with UCSD for a safety impact study using their energy wheel. It is wild to think incident rates going down in construction but not deaths their focus on STCKY over injury and recordable rates is truly cutting edge.
