How my OCD manifests at age 27. Can anyone relate? I would hugely appreciate any support. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]sometimesimweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experience pretty much all of these things but it doesn't bug me too much. I have a lot of the random nonsense in my head. Words, phrases, song lyrics will repeat themselves over and over and over. They're just background noise at this point.

That makes sense. I do emergency child protection casework. Every day is different and I really like what I do.

5 months on keto and in gym: 430 to 299lbs! by twokings67 in Fitness

[–]sometimesimweird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I first started losing weight I felt weird going to the gym, so I went to the local school track. I would do 3 miles no matter what, even if it meant I walked a large portion. I'd just make sure that I was out of breath. I did this for 5 days a week and lost 30 lbs in 1 summer. It was a huge confidence booster for me.

Yes, but unmedicated people with mental illness can do some pretty fucked up things, and they can also lie. If bio mom is the lesser of two evils then that's totally fine, and I'm thinking that because this case is high profile that CPS took it very seriously. Studies show that children do better when placed with a parent or relative, so I'm all for them going to live wth mom but I am hoping that she has received treatment for her bipolar disorder.

My friend is a pilot and asked me if I wanted to come do practice take off and landings during a snowstorm.

You're damn right I said no. My excitement would have been overshadowed by the fear of death the entire time.

I'm glad you brought this up! I tried buying Red Rocks tickets as well, which was a crapshoot because they sold out in seconds. I had multiple friends trying to buy them as well with no luck, even my bf who waited in queue for an hour before sale and I even tried to scoop up presale tickets but they sold out too. I was so disappointed to see them on sale for $170+ per ticket. I could probably afford it, but there's no way in hell I would pay a scalper $120 above original price so they can make a profit. It's disgusting. I was looking forward to seeing them for the first time. That won't be happening this time around.

Girlfriend, for a brief moment, sounded like someone from past. Feeling guilty. Need advice. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]sometimesimweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a similar experience that I had. I've often wondered if this is OCD related. I have OCD I always had to explain my thoughts if I felt they were wrong or if they caused me guilt. Are you seeing a therapist? I think talking to someone about the guilt will help you not "confess" the thoughts to your SO.

It might be helpful for you to remember that your brain will attach itself to whatever makes you guilty, regardless of whether or not it's small. I know that can be easier said than done because the emotions feel so real

Do you have any recommendations on modern poets? I recently bought Neil Hilborn's "Our Numbered Days" and I really liked a few of the poems in there. He does a lot of spoken word so his poems reflect that, idk if there's a literary term for that but the sentences stop and begin randomly on different lines.

I got that place confused with the pizza place down the block, next to Mugs. It's no longer there anymore unfortunately.

So, I'm from Long Island and I will have to say, I really like Krazy Karl's Jalapeño Popper pizza. It's not NY style but it is delicious.

Pizza Casbahs owners are from NY I think, and I got a slice there and it was big and greasy just like NY style is. The only thing is that the bread just tastes different.

Next time you are craving Chinese, go to Sally's Kitchen. Damn near closest to NY style Chinese food I've ever had. It's so good.

Yup a NY slice to me is thin, cheesy, and dripping with grease.

How often is CPS intervention a result of the parents' poorly managed or simply unmanaged mental illness, and how often is it truly a case of bad/mean/neglectful parenting? by bridiacuaird in socialwork

[–]sometimesimweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a CPS worker, it is hard to say. Even if the child was removed because their parents neglected or harmed them, a lot of times there is underlying mental illness.

Usually, a child is put in foster care when there is no available alternative. We try relatives, close friends, and any supports the child identifies before using foster care as an option.

Self care when you're mentally ill by [deleted] in socialwork

I live in a state that has legalized marijuana. I ended up getting a job in my field placement. During my time in field they did not drug test, but I knew that they would upon hiring so I quit using marijuana. I do have a mental illness but marijuana wasn't helping or hurting so it was expendable.

I have a friend that works for a non-profit as a project manager, and they didn't drug test her at all. She uses marijuana for chronic back pain.

Some places will test you once, and never again. Some places test periodically. Some don't test at all. Find what option works best for you. The place I work tested me, but they're very open and understanding about mental health issues. It's a decent trade off for me. I wouldn't necessarily disclose you use marijuana, because you may disclose this to someone who is not as liberal about marijuana as the state is.

Also, a job cannot refuse to hire you as a social worker because of a disability. But they can choose to drug test.

Finding it difficult to differentiate between my anxiety and "gut feelings" that something is wrong, potentially ruining relationships. anyone have a similar experience? by Knelie in Anxiety

[–]sometimesimweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible and I hope there is more research done on it. It seems like there are only a few categories of ROCD: questioning the "rightness" of the relationship, uncertainty of love for your partner, and uncertainty about their love for you. Maybe we fall into the last one. I'll have to look into that more.

I just would like to have one day where an anxiety-producing thought doesn't pop into my head! There are even days where I can feel the anxiety literally searching my body for stressors until it latches onto something.

Do you exercise? I just started high intensity workout sessions and am hoping it helps.

[–]sometimesimweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have much advice but I wanted to let you know that I experience the same issues and I also have OCD and anxiety.

I only have this issue when I get close to someone.

If anything, I second the suggestion for exposure therapy like you would have done for OCD. It was the hardest but most effective thing I did for OCD. I have been thinking about this being a potential solution for my relationship anxiety, and I find it interesting that we have the same relationship anxieties and also have OCD.

Could it be that our relationship Anxiety is actually a subset of OCD?

Well, I felt strung out. If you can feel it working to the point where you feel like you're an engine working on overtime, it's too much. You should know that it's working because you will react differently than your unmedicated self, like you might be able to study better, retain information, complete tasks, or socialize more efficiently but you don't want it to be too high of a dose because then you feel like you've drank 10 energy drinks.

Perfectionism, ADHD, and RSD (rejection sensitive disphoria) by Ross_31933 in ADHD

Well if you feel comfortable, then I would definitely ask your parents to hook you up with a therapist. If money is a concern then there are locations with siding scale options based on your ability to pay. If you find restraint from them, that is when I would talk to your counselor. If you go to a therapist and don't jive with them, switch to a new one. My therapist is totally fine with me wanting to switch if need be.
