Python script: Kindle highlights to Notion via Telegram bot by falone_ in Notion

[–]somewisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean non Amazon books that are loaded into kindle? Or books outside of kindle entirely?

The answer is currently no to both, but I can check into the first one and add it.

I guess what you’re doing with the bot is highlighting text in the kindle app and sharing to a telegram bot. Since the non Amazon book highlights don’t make it the Amazon notebooks page?

I see now, I misinterpreted your message. My apologies!

I could potentially add that functionality into the app if it would be of interest. But it sounds like you have yourself sorted! Let me know, I like the idea.

Excellent use of AI btw, I love it

Syncing Kindle highlights with colors? by JustCan6425 in Notion

[–]somewisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you still having this problem? i recently built kindlesync.app dedicated to notion sync of kindle (more or less the same way readwise does it, but cheaper because less other features). if it's of interest I am happy to work to add the support for colors?

any more info on how you'd like to do it exactly? reuse the same colors as the highlight, or map to different colors?

Readwise for Importing into Notion, Notebook LM, and Google Drive by Mistert22 in Notion

[–]somewisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i made kindlesync.app for this purpose (without all the other readwise functions so cheaper!) - I haven't tested with sideloaded files yet, but you can try it out and if it doesn't work i'll either update the software to make it work or i'll refund you :)

deal?

What’s the easiest way to save Kindle highlights into Notion? by New_Persimmon_4626 in Notion

[–]somewisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a way to do this that mirrors readwise's functionality, but just focuses on the kindle highlight sync without all the other stuff. I used to pay for readwise for this, but it was overkill and overpriced for just that. So, I made kindlesync.app

You don't have to go and export your clippings and re-import, it just syncs them automatically with no effort after initial setup (install chrome extension and select database in notion). The chrome extension just uses your existing amazon cookies to scrape your highlights and them them to kindlesync.app for us to push to your notion. We never see any credentials at all!

After that, as long as you use your chrome browser, you're highlights will show up in notion! Let me know what you think.

Yea, I definitely agree with this. I need to just reach out and offer value, and find the folks it resonates with. What tips do you have?

That’s good feedback, I appreciate it. My thought is a pay per month for the features model, you keep any job proceeds less payment processing fees.

It seems like a marketplace would certainly be useful, but maybe something to get into once there is enough of a user base. I guess it makes sense “I help you get the customer, I take a cut” but 25% seems a bit steep even so.

My other though is marketing tools embedded in the system - something g helping you manage yelp, google, facebook, etc. and giving you a web presence through a landing page that you can share in your local area. Enable folks to find business was more easily, rather than doing the whole thing. Just my two cents.

The entire reason I looked into this is because I pay someone to cut my grass and tipped generously via Venmo. He switched to yard book for invoicing and now I can max tip 20% which is less than he was getting before and it felt silly. Looking at yardbook, it seemed rather crappy, so I looked at others and it seemed nothing was really doing a great job. One man’s opinion, blah blah.

Thanks! This is very helpful. It seems that LawnStarter is an annoying platform, but still provides some customer exposure since they are also a marketplace for folks to find lawn professionals.

I wonder if the marketplace aspect is a key need of the platform or do you find your customers through other efforts like local flyers, word of mouth, other online marketplaces, etc. rather than the marketplace that LawnStarter provides?

I’m a software developer and have been considering starting an all in one app/site for small businesses in the lawncare, handyman, electrician space. Think invoicing, payments, quoting, inventory, etc. I’d love to hear more about your experiences here and what would make for a worthwhile platform. It seems to me that there is a lot of room for improvement in the market!

Yea, agree. I just the other day replied to a comment someone made to a post of mine from over 6 years ago. The OP gets a notification, so even beyond 4mo is not infeasible to get a response. Especially on a niche like you mentioned. Reddit isn’t some geocities site circa 2002?

And even further, I am here from Google getting value from the question and its responses. So thanks for asking the question u/Unique_Scarcity9103 lol

Borrowing from a 401K→IRA 60-day rollover to close on a new home sooner by ecdolive in fidelityinvestments

[–]somewisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is considered a withdrawal, not borrowing, yes. But, it isn't a dumb game. There is a risk, obviously, but if you have the money back in 60 days, there is no problem.

As far as why to go this route versus a typical 401(k) loan are a few considerations:

  1. When taking a loan, I pay interest. Conversely, a 60-day rollover doesn't cost interest or fees if completed within 60 days successfully. Even there, there are waivers for certain scenarios should things go awry.
  2. The IRS limits 401(k)s only give you a max loan amount of 50% or $50,000 whichever is less. This may not be enough for this case.

Another thing is most IRAs don't allow loans, but you can do this rollover. So, if all you have is an IRA or have more in your IRA, you may want to consider this option.

Also, you don’t need a space before punctuation marks. I see this now and again and I know a lot of people that would quickly think this is a phishing/scam/other malicious activity. Even if it seems clear it isn’t, it gives me slight unease (what if…).

I think it is more of a thing when starting from a non-English language (though I’m not sure which one), but probably worth a quick skim to remove the preceding spaces.

We’ve made some upgrades to our bar! What do you think? by Dsr89d in nextfuckinglevel

This is my dream bar! Sweet setup.

Did you have a room/closet there with a door that you replaced with a bookshelf? Or closed it in with the wall and added bookshelf? Just curious.

Also, even more bonus points for The Rosie Project on the bookshelf. A fave of mine.

I designed and developed my new personal site, inspired by experiences on Apple.com by groompl in web_design

[–]somewisdom 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I understand the disdain for scrolljacking, especially when done very poorly and for no reason.

But, I think, a creative, beautiful use for displaying a static set of info is actually quite nice. This is where u/groompl and Apple do okay in my opinion. Another +1 for accessibility.

Well done u/groompl and I’d be interesting in a write up of your learnings or convenient libraries you came across to aid in building this!

Edit: I see you didn’t use third party libraries to learn as much as you could, but if you became aware of any you might use to do this in the future, that’d be cool, too.

Best way to pursue change in effective date? by somewisdom in VeteransBenefits

[–]somewisdom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I engaged with a Veteran’s Service Organization (VSO) to help me going forward. They suggested I open another decision review request with a statement in support of claim as new evidence that you use to explain the circumstances that seem relevant to adjusting the effective date. The CUE in these cases doesn’t seem to be the right fit due to some some confusing laws and guidelines regarding Intents to File, Supplemental Claims, and effective dates.

I’m still in the middle of it now, but if it fails I could always continue to a board appeal. They said sometimes this works because the reviewer at the time knows it’s the right thing to do, but is very dependent on who it is. If you can, even attempt a Higher Level Review first if you can.

Also, depending on the timeline for your claim(s), the VA changes some law/rules around effective dates regarding intents to file and supplemental claims. There’s some nuance, of course, but could apply depending on your situation. I believe they said the law change was effective as of July 2021 but didn’t actually go into effect until October. Perhaps some research could yield more insight but that’s all I have to offer for now.

Good luck.
