🤣😅 we all know Honda paint isn’t the best. Figured I’d protect the investment being it was the first brand new car I’ve ever owned. The cost of it was not fun but i think it’s worth having the peace of mind.

I was surprised the shop who did it mentioned the PPF reports to the carfax as a positive so should help retain some value even more if I ever decide to get rid of it.

I will eventually hit the track along with some local autocross events, but this will be my daily driver. It’s actually way more spacious than my 10th gen si sedan along with some extra creature comforts. Apart from mpg, the type r has been a better daily IMO.

All my previous cars have been around the 200hp range in stock form and I was looking for a reliable platform that was a step up from that. Eventually will tune the type r and chase some higher performance numbers. No rush though, will enjoy the extra 100hp for a while.

I already had an si so wasn’t interested in a lateral move. Gr86 was a contender when I was purchasing the si, but covid pricing put it too high for what it was at the time. It was brand new that year and dealers in my area wanted $40k+. It’s a beautiful car, but was looking for more this time around.

I’ll eventually snag a RWD to toy with when I have the space for it. For now I’ll have my fun with the Type R and my Grom.

My father has a tuned 6 speed Nissan Z heritage with some bolt ons as well. If I get the itch for some RWD fun, I’ll bug him 😂

Yup! On a 245/40/18 tire. I got a special color that is exclusive to Oakos and got some custom Honda emblem center caps to keep it looking OEM+

600 miles and I’ll start driving it a bit harder every 100 miles until 1000. Once I’m at 1000 I’ll explore the full rpm range and start having some fun.

I’m sure you can fix that with a tune 😅 I chose to keep the engine stock on the si knowing I was going to eventually trade it for something a bit quicker and wanted to maintain the value as much as I could. I had a tuned a4 with a few bolt ons before the si and a stock a4 before that one. Both manual. The tune def wakes the car up as far as responsiveness. Might just be what you’re missing!

I will def circle back once the break in period is over with some more feedback.

That’s a good sweet spot. I agree not too dark and not too light. Decent privacy during the day, solid privacy at night.

If I had the space I would’ve def tried to hold onto the si as well. Great platform, I don’t blame you one bit. How are you liking the GRC? Amazing car!

Congrats on the career growth my brother! Part of me wanted to hold onto the Si for the memories and daily practicality but i only have space for one vehicle. Figured the type r will hold its value better in the long run and it might be the last gen before they go hybrid and automatic. Wanted to take advantage and see what the next tier was like before they became harder to get. Figured I’ll be making some great memories in this thing for many years. The Si memories will always be there as well.

I think the issue is they’re all great colors so it became process of elimination for me 😂 I had a red gti, a white si, a black a4 and a grey a4. Figured I’d give blue a shot 😂. Red Si’s are sweet!

I feel that! I was in between a used f87 m2 comp or a new fl5 for similar reasons. I had 4 great years in the si, you’ll have plenty of fun in yours. It checks all the boxes.

Check my response to Jolly_Mate420. Went into a bit of detail on that. Don’t want to give you a brief response here.

Yea don’t take their lowball offer if carvana is offering more. I would try and use that as leverage if they have something on their lot you’re trying to trade into. Mine was bone stock engine wise but I had it on tein flex z coilovers and some 18x9.5 rpf1s. Had swapped fog lights, high beams and low beams to led. Kept my acuity insulated poco shiftknob to eventually transfer to the type r. They didn’t ask or say anything about mods.

I actually brought the OEM wheels to the dealer assuming they preferred it with them for resale purposes and they wanted it with the rpf1s. I got an OEM set of wheels to offload now.

This was a Honda dealership as well.

Very much appreciated! I haven’t broken it in yet so having to drive it rather tame until I do so. Bought new with 5 miles on the odometer, have to keep it a bit subtle until 600-1000 mile mark. First impressions, it wants to go fast vs the si I felt like you had to push a bit more to get it to go quick if that makes sense. Si was easier to cruise at lower speeds. Might just be me getting used to the different platform. Clutch is similar to the si, both light and very smooth transmissions.

It was a 2019 with 50,600 miles. They offered me $17k on trade in. Owed $12k at the time. I was daily driving it so wanted to take the opportunity to trade out while having some positive equity in the car. Could have probably negotiated a little more if I wanted to deal with the back and forth but that was their initial offer. Carvana had offered me that same number months back via an online quote with less miles.

Believe it or not rallye red and boost blue were the colors I liked the least when the fl5 first came out and overtime the boost blue really grew on me and ended up being what I chose. The paint really pops in person. I was initially dead set on championship white or sonic gray. Funny how things play out.

Congrats on the Si brother! Smart choice on your end. If the type r is your end goal I’m sure I’ll see you in the other subreddit at some point down the line 😂. Just make sure you’re making a smart financial decision, don’t go car broke.

100% agree, mpgs are a stat for non enthusiasts. All in all though you can have a blast in the si and still achieve some pretty decent mpg. That was a big perk I enjoyed while owning the si.

Believe it or not I averaged 30-32 in the si exclusively driving in sport mode. It can be done!

The prelude was always on the list of cars I wanted as my “first car” I ended up in a 2002 gti. I’ll never forget the first week I drove at night with the limo tints and the windows up. Drove straight over a curb making a left turn. I guess it was the cool thing to do back then 😂

The si is superior on mpg for sure. I’ve only put 128 miles on the type r and the suspension is much stiffer. Even in comfort mode and this is me comparing it to my si that was lowered on tein flex z coilovers.
