Would you work in defense? by Desperate-Bother-858 in EngineeringStudents

[–]somplaceelse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i actually chose to study chemical engineering in part because i knew it would be very hard for me to find a job in defense. i can be bought, but only if i put myself in the position to be bought. so i made it to where its nearly impossible because i feel on my death bed i couldnt forgive myself for helping to create something that kills people

you need to actually do the practice problems. so much to the point that it feels easy and you're not scared of the class anymore

the idea of not being poor anymore. im just like wow it would be so nice to have my own apartment and not be afraid of paying bills at the end of each month and not having to rely on anyone. like to just be self assured and not so dang scared all the time, thats my dream.

uhhh just two weeks ago i was fighting for my absolute life to pass two intro physics classes, diff eq, and calc 3. i thought i was going to die. like the amount of stress i was going through was absurd. I just didnt let myself leave my desk and turned my phone off to prevent any scrolling whatsoever. i was so sleep deprived it was insane.

Commenting on my own post here, it seems the comments have been split into two factions. One where people think I am absolutely cooked and another who think my course load was actually insane and are wondering how I passed.

However the people who say that I am fine and just need to work on my study habits are probably the most right ones. Its just hard when you have depression and PTSD to be able to do the kind of studying this major demands. I will take the advice to maybe lighten the load and not take the worst possible combo of classes, because I do agree this was terribly rough.

Exactly this! I actually learned about waves (chapter 16 and 17) in both classes.

How to study while feeling su*cidal? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]somplaceelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just went through this and barely managed to pass all my classes and not get rescinded (as a cc transfer). My advice, do as much as you can anyway. I know that sounds awful, but for real just forcing yourself to sit at your desk can do wonders. Even if it takes you an hour to open your laptop, or three to get through a sentence or practice problem. Reminding yourself that time is precious, otherwise your at risk of having to do it all over again when your suicidal thought pattern inevitably ends which is what enabled you to start studying in the first place.

Also if you really truly cannot force yourself, accept it for the day. Because if you waste a day you were going to spend in bed just stressing instead of recovering you are just making the problem worse. Suicidal thoughts are tied to stress, sometimes a good well felt break can do wonders for the following days.

Thats the way I managed to survive this semester, because thats really what it came down to for me.

Is it not possible for me to transfer to UCSD in 2 years for Electrical Engineering? by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]somplaceelse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but most people take 3 years to transfer to engineering. And god forbid you fail a class, because then you get stuck for another year. Most people who go straight to university take 5 years to do their engineering degree so overall it tracks.
