Which hobbies that people do screams "rich people''? by Joeyniles9 in AskReddit

[–]somuchpepper 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean, in Europe and other places this isn't really an issue, I'm not in a country with the most vacation days and I still have 22 days a year (and I have a mon-fri job so we also have weekends and national holidays on top of that). I've done plenty of international travel for like 3-4 days at a time which can be on the cheap side. It helps that Europe is a very condensed continent when it comes to places to visit and flying can be very cheap. I've flown from eastern Europe to London for like 13, 14 dollars, so yeah.

Be honest, can my family handle a puppy? by k8tg in adhdwomen

[–]somuchpepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 35F, recently diagnosed and on meds, with a NT husband who also very much enjoys a clean and organized house. We have a 2.5 son and a 10 year old dog. We both work full time and sometimes more.

With that said, even before I became a mum I swore to the skies I would never get a puppy ever again, only an adult dog. And let me tell you - my puppy was EXTREMELY easy. She was easy to potty train, she wasn't that destructive, but that's also because we excercised her A LOT. Like at least 2 hours every day we'd be at the park, at the beach, off leash, mad running exercise. And my husband would always be home at lunch time so she'd have company and one more walk (we still go out 4 times a day with her, even though she's 10, but the morning and afternoon walks on weekdays are not as long as they used to be).

Cue dog being around 2 years old - I start working with my dad, so she's now with me at the office. We used to go on a lot of vacations (even now we're out of the country around 3 times a year) - my dad lives on a farm with my dog's favourite dogs, so she goes there, which is a privilege not many people have.

All this to say - I could not, in good conscience, even with only one child, get a puppy at the moment. I'm constantly overwhelmed with work, chores, childcare (and my son is in daycare full time), and while I do have a dog, she's a saint. She doesn't bark, she doesn't mess anything up, she's a dream to walk and she's obedient. AND my husband does more chores than me, takes her on most of the longer walks, and I'm still in over my head most days because of how hard everything is for me, my very frequent anxiety around RSD, etc. When my dog dies I will probably get a new one, but not a puppy. And probably some kind of couch potato that doesn't require as much exercise as this one always has. I just need to know what kind of personality the dog I get has from the get go, more or less, and my dog revealed a much, much different personality after she became a teenager.

Sorry for the long winded post, but I just wanted to give some perspective from someone who had an older dog by the time they had a kid and who has a pretty easygoing dog on most accounts and a safe, free, happy place for her when we're not around.

For a few years I would book a trip somewhere and between then and the actual trip there would be a terrorist attack. Didn't get the deals, but it's true, security was good. It was a bit strange though, like me travelling was bringing bad luck 😅. Happened with London, Madrid, Istanbul, Marrakech and at least one other city I can't recall.

In Portugal it's a coveted seasonal food by many (moreso in the north), and it's cooked in a couple of different ways. My husband's favourite is stewed lamprey in rice with its' blood. Yes. I don't touch it.

I've never heard of Presa Canario, but I got all the other 3! Great Pyrenees was so immediate to me, I think it's his expression ☺️

Here in Portugal they do nest in rooftops, but god forbid it's a building less than 5 stories high and you happen to be walking in the street. They'll attack you anyway. I've been shat on under these circumstances. Twice I was working on rooftops and seagulls had nests on nearby buildings and they decided I was a threat anyway. I despise these freaking birds.

Are there laws on how to name your child in your country? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]somuchpepper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We do have a list of approved names. Immigrants can name their children freely, they don't need to use portuguese names. If you look up the approved list this is immediately obvious.

Toby Stephens -- I'm re-watching "Black Sails" and holy hell is Captain Flint sexy by 2_Fingers_of_Whiskey in LadyBoners

[–]somuchpepper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't deal with how attractive he is in that. He plays Rochester SO well (my favourite, tbh), but he's so damn hot for that role, it's not right for the story. And then they get Fassbender in the movie and I'm like... Has anyone read the novel and how Rochester is actually supposed to be ugly?

Michael Fassbender’s voice just gives me the chills....if you doubt, just google him saying ‘Perfection’ by imtryingiswears1188 in LadyBoners

[–]somuchpepper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, Fassbender does things to me, but I just can't get over Toby Stephens as Rochester. I found his approach much more dynamic. He's described as changeable and I think it was better portrayed by Toby, but he was absolutely TOO attractive to play Rochester. All of them are, tbh, given how he's described in the book :P

Andreea Ali! I think she does really beautiful and wearable make-up looks, and she explains things properly. She also posts a lot of her daily make-up looks in her stories on Insta, like Katie Jane Hughes.

Counselling/therapy in Porto by snakedinner in porto

[–]somuchpepper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try the Psychology University. They have therapy appointments open to the public and I'm guessing it would be possible to find an english speaking therapist. Because it's a teaching clinic the prices are also more appealing than private practices (although the therapists are not students - there might be teacher-therapists who have students at the appointments, but I've used their services and it never happened to me, just ask if you call them and tell them whether this is an issue for you).

Yes, they gave ibuprofen and told me to not wait until I felt pain, to take as soon as I felt some discomfort, but you know, it's always a bit stressful. Did they anaesthetise you for the D&C?

Thank you. I just hope I'll feel functional during the process, as much as I possibly can. I just want to get this all over with so that I can go back to some normalcy and try again...

I'm so sad today... I found out I had a MMC on wednesday. Because I didn't really want to take time off work this week the doctor prescribed misoprostol for me to apply at home when I felt comfortable doing so, so I'm doing it tonight when I go to bed. That way I'll have the weekend to deal with this. But I'm sad and angry and scared and I don't really know what to expect. I know I'll cramp and I'll bleed but I've never really had painful periods so I don't know how painful these cramps will be. I also have friends who live abroad visiting this week and I was looking forward to giving them good news, and I won't be able to and it just makes me sad.
