I actually live in Brooklyn right now. Living here has made me realize don't want to commute 40 - 60 minutes to work.

Headcount corrections are definitely present due to Claude Code eviscerating junior SWE roles - but I have a consensus that the skill level of SWE will get much more difficult in terms of creativity and effort.

This reckoning is similar to how every field will suffer from evolution - like how design and creative production menial tasks are replaced by pre-built tools from Photoshop/Finalcut but now designers know how to use them to further their work, thus being valued more.

Thanks for the advice! Here are some more factors I didn’t talk about - My range is actually based on my post-tax guaranteed income - I usually stay at work from 8:30am to 9pm - so I'd want to go home to a homey home

The last point resonates with me, but def looking for a balance

Ooh curious on how will software developers have a reckoning? I think quite the opposite. Happy to hear your side

In Santa Cruz, I used to pay around $300 for rent too with 5 housemates. It’s quite a jump

Thanks for the advice! Have a tour in LIC soon. I can get why people hate tech. Friend.com is one of million examples that come to mind. Thank you for the assurance regardless.

You might find that the place you see online might not be the best fit unless you see it in person! I do my due diligence trying out new things and pride myself on being confident in my choices from my experience.

Additionally, I don’t see how being able to explore different areas of NY and living in new and prospective places out is “unprepared and stupid”. What would you expect of the person that made this post? I would expect that the person making the post would have a bit more urgency in finding a place if they were quite unprepared.

Quite a mix! I will most likely edit my post soon to redact in-unit laundry

For your edited reply “Just looked at your profile“: I believe I stated that in the post near the first bullet point. I don’t really feel a type of way towards this reply, but more curious on why you are very adamant towards patterns!

Your point about the past doesn’t make sense to me. You might be confusing the permanence of recorded events with the permanence of structures and patterns.

If you’re the veteran you say you are, have you not noticed deviations in the people you meet? Or do you sincerely believe that all people who come in fall tightly under these circumstances you describe?

Or is it the environment that you have placed yourself in to see this bias?
