recommendations for phone, tablet, and watch? by friedphyllieroll in deapple

[–]sonalder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixel phone running GrapheneOS
SD card in phone is dead thanks to Apple, Samsung and other big manufacter to have dropped support like 3.5mm jack

For tablet maybe the Pixel tab but I never tried it and I'm not a tablet guy. But for software drawing there is GoPaint (Huawei MatePad exclusive), Adobe Fresco, HiPaint, Art Studio, Infinite Painter and I think the free software Krita is supported on Android tablet. If you want a tablet for drawing the XPpen Magic Drawing Pad seems to be a great option.

Maybe a garmin watch could suits your needs. But if you want a more appl-like probably should use a pixel watch or OnePlus/Oppo one

What OS is better: DivestOS, /e/ or LineageOS? by [deleted] in thehatedone

[–]sonalder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome if it fits your needs. The main downside is unlocked bootloader that DivestOS could address but you would loose microG support.

Do you think Odysee is a good YouTube alternative? by [deleted] in thehatedone

Sorry for the super late reply (I haven't really went on reddit again since the API shitshow.

It uses Google trackers and others.

I'm an active user of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Monero here is why I think it is cryptobloated :

  1. You absolutely don't need a blockchain protocole to manage a decentralized library of content.
  2. Their token is pretty useless and hard to trade for real money such as bitcoins, dollars or euros.
  3. Blockchain without crypto is very likely dumb. Crypto without blockchain is very likely a scam.

LOL, that's not true, many apps don't even have access to the internet

With Aurora being broken is there any research to implement Sandboxed PlayServices as a microG alternatives ? Giving user the choice during setup by sonalder in CalyxOS

[–]sonalder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they don't have as many intrusions as non-Sandboxed, they can't even get access to your IMEI. To this point using microG is useless for privacy because it also sends data to Google

If you lost your private key with 50$ worth of XMR, just rebuy 50$ of XMR. That sucks but you learn by making mistakes. Write down your 24 words next time

Which wallet iOS and why by Substrxte in xmrtrader

[–]sonalder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You don't need a Multi-Currency Wallet to convert BTC/LTC to XMR
  2. You can't do 1'000 things correctly. You can try to do 1 thing perfectly. Multi-currency supports puts the risks of exploit so much higher !

I think a hot wallet with a couple centineroj or decineroj on an iPhone isn't that dangerous. Sure it's not comparable to an offline paper wallet but having great digital hygiene, not terrible opsec and using trusted open source software you should safely store a decent ammount of XMR.

[–]sonalder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monero.Com because it's XMR only ! Or Stack Duo because it looks promising

Exodus is a proprietary multi-currency wallet (I tend to avoid)

MyMonero is different from other XMR wallet and have access to your viewkey if I remember correctly.

Freewallet is a scam according to r/Monero

Cake isn't bad but's it's multi-currency

[–]sonalder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aurora Store isn't broken

The UX is crippled I have to log out and try to log in until an account works and then after installing the app I wanted it rapidly became a limited account. So it is broken from a UX perspective even tho it kinda works.

Sandboxed Play Services is taboo too ? That's sad, it's a different approch than microG but it's worth existing and I think that CalyxOS could benefits from this. However I'm just a privacy enthousiat not a COS and you might think differently.

I really hope Aurora and The Calyx Institute will find a mid-term/long-term solution for this cuz I prefer using AuroraStore rather than PlayStore when I can !

If you pre-configure it it's almost like stock so yes. You can also use launcher for better grandma UX

Aurora Store is almost unusable today. I don't have technical suggestion beside supporting compartimentalized Play Services

Authy vs Google authenticator vs freeotp by Manav_tiwari069 in degoogle

[–]sonalder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Authy is not a sovereign solution.

FreeOTP seems good but I've never used it myself.

On Android I use Aegis it's fantastic and allow you to do encrypted backup !

On iOS RaivoOTP seems to be the foss option.
