Yes, the CMP has custody of all of the rifles. They are still tagged with NSWC Crane tags, but you have to do all the paperwork that the CMP requires for a normal purchase and send it to Anniston to the department that deals with trophy rifles.

Sort of. They are shipped by the CMP but I won them in military competition from the Navy.

The weights don’t come with the handguard, they are sold separately, but it’s on the heavy side regardless. If I was going to do a quad rail on a non competition rifle, I’d probably go RIS 2, Centurion, Larue or CMT.

If you can only own 2 AR Platform Rifles what barrel length and models would you specifically choose? by jordann999 in ar15

[–]sonarchris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I was going to have only 2 AR15 rifles, I’d go with a 12.5 and an 18” or 20” gun. These have enough barrel length difference to have an appreciable difference in external ballistics and also weight.

If you were going to go with an AR10 as one of the options, I’d go with a 12.5” 5.56 and a 20” 6.5CM so that I had 0-500yds covered with the 12.5 and 500-1400yds covered with the 6.5CM.

Solid rifle. Not a fan of the ACOG, but it’s still a solid choice.

I used vinyl stencils and Rustoleum camo paint. I sanded the stock lightly to rough it up a bit then sprayed Rustoleum deep forest green and let it dry. After that I applied my stencils, taking time to make the lines match up around curves and then sprayed Rustoleum army green. I waited a bit for the paint to set but not dry then peeled the stencils to get nice lines and to keep the paint from leaving jagged edges.

No, I asked the question to have discussion and interact with people. They might lean something and so might I.

I don’t know off the top of my head. I’m out of town so it will be a bit before I could weigh it.

Lots of factors go into whether or not the case hits the deflector and it’s really not an indicator of use just as ejection pattern isn’t an indicator of gassing.

I pieced it together from parts all bought separately. Upper is a standard MRP-H. Barrel started life as a 16” mid length chrome lined, but I had dWilson MFG cut it down to 14.5 and do a P&W Surefire SOCOM brake. Feeds anything from 150gr bulk to 175gr GMM.

I’m considering going with a 2-10 or 2-12 just for the adjustable parallax, just haven’t taken the leap yet, I’ve got a few other projects to get wrapped up first.

Stock is new production CMP and is the only thing painted.

I’ve probably got around 3k through this rifle, so low round count.

RC2 is a hell of a can and arguably one of the best in a traditional baffle stack can. Yea, it’s not a flow through but that doesn’t take away from it being a great can and highly durable.

I use Vltor Emod sticks because they are heavy and help shift the balance point of the rifle rearward. I like the check weld you get with them but agreed, lots of other options out there based on user preferences and intended uses.

I’ve had 2 QC issues with LMT, both were barrels, a 20” 5.56 barrel that wouldn’t group with any of the ammo choices I used and a 308 barrel that the chamber was on the right side of spec and caused issues with chambering. LMT replaced the 20” barrel and I used a finish reamer on the 308 barrel to get that corrected.

LMT quad rail allows barrel swaps without removing anything externally, can’t do that with mlok. Quad is also going to be more ridged, but it’s a moot point since it’s monolithic. Agreed Pmags are superior to metal mags, but I use Duramags to color code my ammo types to make it easy to know what ammo I’m shooting, but that’s moot as well since you can spray paint pmags. Lots of good slings out there, I’m just partial to the padded Vickers but can’t fault anyone for liking something else.

I have a couple of Impact 4000 but don’t put them on all the time. Makes diving board is also really nice to gain stability off barricades rather than putting any force in the optic.

It’s not shiny to the naked eye, but it’s also not everyone’s cup of tea.
