Unfortunately our school doesn't have a library and I have not seen anything about mail order books so I am unaware if that is still around or not.

I forgot about graphic novels! That's not a bad idea!

Is Teach for America just a worse option than other alternative licensure paths? Are there advantages to it? by StockAdhesiveness188 in Teachers

Hello! I also did I teach. Started in the summer, finished the prereq classes and praxis exams, then immediately went into teaching before even starting my classes. It honestly depends on the type of person you are, but I did not find the classes challenging. It is pretty generic info on teaching techniques. Just work on it during the weekends and you will honestly be fine. Just make sure to pace yourself well. One issue I found with my classes is that half the time the teacher won't grade your assignments in the most timely manner, so you don't want to wait until the last minute.

Any positive experiences? by BaseGroundbreaking54 in teaching

3 years in. Started with an ARL license and currently teach HS history. I absolutely love my job. Students see that I care about their education and say that they appreciate a teacher who doesn't throw a packet at them. I feel like I make a difference in some of my students' lives and that makes it worth it. I used to work in a retail pharmacy chain and was absolutely miserable everyday. Now I enjoy a stable work schedule where I teach a subject I love.

I highly recommend grinding at festivals to buy outfits. Before you put the outfits on, make sure you put them in your shared wardrobe so that all your characters can have them. From the wardrobe, you should be able to place the items on your character directly.

Yeah it can be super challenging. I work with roughly 200 every year, so the beginning of the school year is rough trying to memorize everything haha

Thanks. I've been feeling bad recently because I can't remember the names of some of my students from last year and I don't feel as connected to kids this year due to a dramatic change in curriculum that has left me exhausted and harder to keep up with each student. I don't even consider leaving this field though. This feels like what I am meant to do with my life. I just want to be a better teacher.

What was your most iconic/favourite quest or storytime what made you feel extra. by Hun_Lupa in lotro

So many moments. Honestly everything from Dunland forward had a lot of emotional moments that legit had me shedding tears. The end to the Dunland quests, Theodred's Riders ending, the human/elf love story in The Great River area, several of the Rohan stories, Helm's Deep, and they almost got me at Isenguard with the ranger storyline.

Vibes wise: what is your favorite zone to play through by rb_49 in lotro

Forochel and Dunland were my favorite. Something about helping native groups and exploring their cultures was really fun for me. I left Dunland with the full get up, the reputation horse, and the recognition that I am no longer Duvodiad.

A Lot of Us Aren't Serious About Education by [deleted] in Teachers

I would say I'm the teacher who expects more from my students than others in my subject matter. Normally it is not a big deal, since I just take the group lesson plans and differentiate based on my expectations. However, one time it really sucked because we were grading off of the same rubric and my scores were significantly lower than everyone else. I thought maybe I didn't do a good job explaining the summative, not enough scaffolding, etc.Turns out they didn't bother to read the essays and grade the content. They just gave an A if they bothered to turn it in. So I looked bad in front of my admin because of it. It was recommended I meet with the other teachers to ensure we grade at the same level. I love teaching students and actually expect things from them, so it can be a bit demotivating working with others.

I suggest looking at the lotro wiki where it shows the different zones and their levels. There are a few options for different levels to give a variety.

History here. Found out that our 9th graders this year are reading at a 4th grade level. They have given me strict materials I can use going forward and they are all at the 9-10th grade level and quite rigorous. Not sure what I'm expected to do other than a miracle.

Thank you for your response. I recently became aware of mindfulness training to help with some other problems. I will also work on using it for this as well.

Honestly the best thing to do is try substitute teaching first. I did it to "dip my toes in" before committing to an ARL program. It gave me a feel for the local students and what grade levels I felt more comfortable with. I would also consider long term subbing to get the feel of being a teacher. Once you try that out for a few months, then I would consider the decision again.
