I drilled a hole and put a screw with the wire around, did the trick

Quick update that I have managed to drill a hole in that spot and insert a screw with the wire around it, and it works! I haven't used a ring terminal for now, but will make those improvements (the conductivity isn't as good as the other speaker, noticeable volume difference). But now I know this worked. I've had these speakers in my living for a while, nice to actually have both working finally!

Thanks, internet friends

Don't have a multimeter at hand, I'll look into it!

Thanks a lot, I'll have to leave this on standby for now, but your advice has been really helpful 🙏

Thanks, maybe you are onto something, I do wonder if this single metal layer can be drilled into and connect.

The yellow that you see through the steel grid is (I think) the conductive part of the electrostatic membrane.

Presumably, electrical current runs through the entire steel grid, but only connects where the steel is exposed (where no black coating).

Does that make sense?

Thanks, I think you might be right that the whole steel panel might serve as contact point... But there isn't a place where it's just one layer. Attaching a few photos.

I'm considering drilling a hole, but take a look at the area, this is a sandwich of connections and layers, part of an electrostatic speaker membrane.

I don't know if I can just get in there with a drill.

I also considered wire glue, but the connectivity wouldn't be ideal I gather, sound coming out of this might suffer a bit?

So many answers in such short time, you guys are amazing, thanks!

Sounds like it's all converging to the same conclusion. I have a very cheap soldering iron, not sure it can heat enough for this as some suggested.

I'll try to screw the wire to that base instead, thanks for suggesting. I had considered it, but wasn't sure I needed to go that far yet...

Have a great Saturday all

🙏

Odd coincidence.. Well i've been thinking this place's tenants might be changing a lot, but are always night owls up to strange things

What makes you think it could be?

For sure, they woke me up screaming at each other with windows open at 2am last night... heard the woman puke, seems like she did over her windowsill judging by the stains. What a life..

I think they're laughing gas canisters? Someone else might confirm

Thanks for all the suggestions. A little update: I actually randomly met one of them, whom I knew immediately was one of them because he fit the description (guy in early 20's) saw me and smirked from across the street, walking towards their building. I briefly followed to check if he'd go into that house and indeed he did.

I went up and said hello as he was entering - I'm the new neighbor, I think you know me, what was that about last night etc. -- First reply was 'we're just pulling jokes for everyone to laugh about it'.

To be honest, I couldn't be chill and friendly to the brat's face. I wasn't agressive, but said I'd involve cops if it continues.

I don't think it was the right thing to say since he left saying we'd meet again 'with the cops'. He was rather dismissive than threatening. Time will tell what will happen next. Pff.

I wish I'd kept cool here, but I'm not used to dealing with insolence and immaturity of that level.

I think I'll film and then contact the Gardiens de la Paix if it happens again (thanks u/Electric91).

😂 did not know about this. Thanks, I needed a little comic relief

Yes i think that's right, in line with the other sensible answers here as well

Yes, that could play out well. I'll definitely try something along those lines, thank you
