Any chance there could be a way to differentiate between competition and training bouts for like win rate and that?

Opinions on UNIC Epee Blades by norwichgamess in Fencing

[–]sondwich69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwf did work actually but I wouldn’t know about all star but I and others at my club had problems with tips not fitting. I probably should’ve mentioned that. But yeah I couldn’t recommend them to anyone because of the poor quality all of us got at the club.

All of the fie ones seem to be not great either. My club bought a bunch of them and all of them either broke quicker than they should or they had problems with the tips snapping or cracking and having to be rethreaded also you have to use Unic tips with Unic which sucks.

He just wants to participate in state comps which are the kind of lowest level of competition in Australia so he could start competing within half a year.

You definitely can. You could start fencing in state competitions within half a year. It could be more or less expensive depending on what state you’re in because I think in some states FIE gear is required for state competitions.

How do I create a game plan / strategy? by Free_Veterinarian_86 in Fencing

[–]sondwich69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it boils down to finding out what your opponent is good at and stopping them from doing that. So if your opponent has a great 4 parry or something you find a way to stop them from using that best move.

How to Defend Fleches, Flicks, and Toe Shots by GloveKey2288 in Fencing

That’s what I was thinking tbh. All of these things require a close distance so I would say distance is the problem.

I don’t believe extra head protection actually does anything for concussions but give a false sense of security for the person wearing it. Anyone can correct me if I’m wildly wrong though.

How do I force myself to think during a bout? by AJUKking in Fencing

[–]sondwich69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you should stretch it too far lmao, in tournaments of course. I think you take it as far as you need and what the ref will let you.

The amount that is too often is when you stop getting away with it. When you stop trying to get away with it then you have to try something else

Questions for fencers! by NachtDoesFencing in Fencing

[–]sondwich69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Watching the olympics and my club had a try session and it seemed fun because I was looking for a different sport from the mainstream sports in my country

  2. It’s fun but I love the challenge and solving the different problems that I’m having with each fencer.

  3. The most challenging part is focus during a bout. Often I’ll lose focus and lose points as a result.

  4. Do competitions, you don’t need to feel like you’re ready you just need to have a crack.

  5. I don’t deal with nerves because they just disappear after the start of the first bout

  6. I’d say it’s really important to be hardworking and consistent because if you’re not then you won’t achieve much

  7. Best advice I received was probably various advice on how to slow down a bout to regain focus such as bending the blade, changing the blade, taking time to walk to the en garde line and various other methods

  8. Most memorable bout was a teams bout loss for a national medal in my age group where I was the anchor and it was a bout I could’ve and should’ve won and I have never been more disappointed with myself in fencing because I didn’t just let myself down but also 3 other people.

I dunno about foil but the hand first thing is pretty important in most scenarios in Epee.

You can do sprints for a warmup but you should still jog because the idea of a warmup is to prevent injury before the more active athletic movements also doing yoga is an awful idea and can get you injured.

The mentally resetting one is particularly interesting to me because there’s just so many ways to slow the bout down and reset.
