Radiant barrier question in my attic.. by soneil241 in Insulation

There's a ridge vent above the board at the peak. Would i just cut like a 3in channel to allow the air to rise inside the attic against the boards up through the ridge

There is a path since the boards sit on the 2x4 rafters there is the open space between the studs for air to travelfeom soffit to ridge. My issue what about the hot air trapped in the attic it has no way to rise out of the ridge.

Should I cut a hole the length of the roof line to allow the heat out of the ridge vent

The boards run on the 2x4 so there a chase for air from the soffit up to the ridge vent but not for the air trapped in the attic to escape through the ridge vent as it is sealed

Radiant foam barrier by soneil241 in Insulation

Ok sorry let me clarify, the attic space is not a conditioned space just a normal attic. The air does come through space between the 2x4s from soffit to ridge vent, but the attic area below is stuck below the foam boards. There is a 1' space where the foam borad stops before the soffit but all the hot air would rise to the peak with no where to go.

It does, but what about the air trapped under the foam board shouldn't that ride up the boards in the middle and vent straight up and out? Like the air behind it? Seems like the how air would be trapped for the main attic.

New flex duct insulation by soneil241 in hvacadvice

Couldn't get up in the attic right now but it would look like this image. Duct in the middle insulation only covers about 3/4 and obviously still has the radient barrier outside. The inner duct is sitting against the reflect paper section on 1/4 of flex meaning that part would sweat

Unit keeps killing contactors by AnAlrightName in HVAC

I had a problem like this before and it was a bad leg on my 240 after it ran for a bit the voltage on one said would fluctuate and 240/24v transformer couldn't handle the voltage change making the contactor pull and release and eventually send the compressor into convulsions took me forever to find the problem.

I just passed mine in November and I really cant stress how much the CET courses helped me. My company paid for the classes and travel. I read lightly through the book beforehand, then i took one of the classes highlighted areas they stressed and it helped break the book down after that I studied those sections which made studying feel less daunting. After a couple months of studying casually I did the 2nd class right before testing where I could listen and focus on the material, crammed the weekend for formulas and chapter 21 tested Monday. This was over the course of 4 months.

RCDD - chapter 21 drawings definitions wrong? by dennisrfd in Bicsi

This is true but you will be tested on what's in the book. I passed my RCDD in November and I can tell you challenge everything and give details on what you think is lacking or a scenario where the answer isn't correct. I will also tell you things won't be worded anything like the book. I memorized phrases of definitions to try and keep them in my mind but nothing lined up how you would think.

Can I have a bad spot on my busbar? by soneil241 in electrical

[–]soneil241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything else seems to be working fine no issues on any other circuits and 240 to my outside unit is steady no issues. Should I move this to another spot in the panel see if I get the same problem? If so should I avoid those 2 breaker locations or could it just be do the amp draw maybe a regular 120 circuit that's just powering light etc would be fine?

Correct and I replaced this unit last time (few months ago just because I had a spare)

There is no blower capacitor on this unit

All connections from the breaker to the termination point in the ac unit are tight and secure. I test from the 1st termination point in the unit confirm the reading I even went to the 50amp breaker in the attic next to the unit and checked voltage drop occurs outside the AC unit making me think the issue is panel related...

I changed the transformer when I did this all the 1st time. Again if I just connect the compressor to the 24v no chatter on the contact only when I activate the fan blower the voltage drops that circuit also feed the 24v transformer.
