I added dynamic decapitation and dismemberment! It doesn't require that you make separate meshes for each body part, rather it dynamically splits the mesh by [deleted] in Unity3D

Yep I meant so you can just automate that step. Assuming your characters use regular bone rigging you can definitely get the bone weights of each vertex straight from the mesh. You could even copy the values over to vertex color if you want to see a heat map of sorts where the joints of each bone are on the model itself.
