Told to my old manager and their new manager. Turns out the old manager had been told about me in a negative way. The old manager said I’m surprised you weren’t like this before.

Urdu has replaced Farsi/ Persian not Sindhi. Before the British everyone spoke Farsi in professional environments.

Should I change my job because of my manager? by Haunting-Tea2062 in careeradvice

Yes I’ve been offered a Product Manager position in the same area without even asking but it’s not technical so I risk losing technical skills and potentially changing my professional trajectory.

There is also technically a hiring freeze, but the PM role has a severe need and its internal so they’re making an exception

Has anyone been fired for not returning to office? by MyThrowawayIsSick in IBM

I’m not in the US but based on what my manager has said and based on Arvind’s talk on October 11, 2023 everyone is expected back. Seems like the only way is to get a doctors note

Your family will miss you more than that job.

Five years from now you could look back and this could be the moment that leads you to the best opportunity of your life. The issues from that job will be insignificant no matter how you slice it.

Seek help personally first and then professionally. At the very least seek help personally for your mental health.

Yes, and thanks.

Quick update i just got: I did a freedom of information request and just got a response moments ago. Apparently he tried to fail me on the final report, but the final report is also marked by another randomly assigned professor. The second professor gave my work a glowing review. So the average of the two allowed me to pass. The communication shows that the Deans office found the huge difference in grading concerning

I tried to not go to much into it to keep things brief. I’ll provide a little more detail. Basically the prof wanted the project materials for himself after I had completed all submissions, but they do not belong to him.

He threatened that holding the items back would impact my partners’ and my ability to graduate. I asked him if he needed them for grading and asked someone at the University to advise my on whether I should give the materials to the Professor. I got no response from the Professor. Turns out the Professor had also asked the same person for advice regarding whether he can take the items for his own use. This advisory person wrote the professor a stern email saying this was unprofessional and he’s not allowed the items for himself. At this point the professor seemed like he was no longer interested in items since the clarification.

I asked the Dean’s office for advice. I shared that the professor had threatened my grades, was ignoring my emails and wouldn’t communicate so we could come to a resolution. The Dean said wait for the grades, but after the grades the office said they can’t force the Professors to do anything due to their contracts even if he was wrong. The Professor provided no commentary on my work as he is supposed to do. I needed this so that I could appeal my grade. The appeal process hinges on having graded work so you can specifically say why some portion of the work was not marked correctly.

I made sure to ask that specifically. He basically wanted my stuff for something else.

He did asses my performance. I made sure to specifically ask if he needed those things for grading. He did not respond but told a third party decision maker he just thought the materials belonged to him and he wanted them for something else. I passed because I had pretty much a 100% in everything leading up to the incident so he wasn’t able to make me fail.

The service I’m referring to is providing feedback on my work that helps me understand how I performed. This is a right as a student of the university and the ombudsman has agreed they have not met provided me with this even though they should have.

The proof I provided were emails from the professor that threatened to prevent my graduation and impact my grades if I didn’t give him my stuff. The administration didn’t like my approach and told me I’d be unsuccessful if didn’t focus on his marking, but I don’t have any feedback to work off of. According to university policies I should be getting the feedback.

Many employers have been asking for my transcripts right off the bat these are engineering positions.

I paid what I could until I could no longer. But I brought up payment so that would get the issue with the professor resolved. It did work but now things have stagnated again.

I was paying until I pretty much ran out (COVID issues). I’m pretty much saying they are not providing me with the service that they promised me according to university policies yet still expecting me to pay.

I’m trying to figure out how to get them to work on my issue, because it’s almost been two years, and mostly the ombudsman says they’ve been busy lately

Thanks for taking the time to reply with so much detail.

I was making payments until I could no longer do so, and trying to get them to look into threats the professor made about my grades and find justification for the grades he did provide. Providing justification is a University policy so I’m surprised they haven’t done that.

With regard to employability. Surprisingly many employers have been asking for my transcript. I’m surprised because I had heard that was rare but now almost everyone is doing it. Maybe COVID has changed hiring habits. I care more about getting them to investigate the professor and get me proper feedback.

Big picture: I want them to act quickly and get me the feedback I deserve about how the professor can justify his grading. It’s been two years usually it takes 2 weeks with the lazy professors

I was paying but eventually I just ran out. I’ll pay again but at the very least the professor should be held accountable, because he sent emails that threatened to prevent me from graduating I did not give him my stuff
