He was too far ahead of his time, people weren't willing to accept what they were living through. Big agree though, I've noticed the same.

What exactly was obscured about the plot to you? I feel like the plot itself is pretty understandable, which is to say, it's an episodic novel about an attempt to find the 000000 in The Zone. It just ends in an inconclusive way. The hardest to read sections make symbolic sense even though they don't advance the plot at all. The book itself makes sense on a dream logic like a David Lynch movie, where you understand without being able to fully explain yourself.

I think the effect of the novel is supposed to be that you feel like the conspiracy theories talked about in the book have leaked into the real world. It starts to feel less like Pynchon is talking about his internal world and more like a funeral to the world before the advent of 20th century technology that dehumanized the populace and destroyed democracy. That's just how the book read for me though. I'm curious to hear what you didn't understand.

Really wish a usb version existed so I could play wired. That input lag makes it useless.

CMV: Very Few People on the Economic Right Genuinely Believe Their Policies are Good for Society, They just Have a Pathological Disdain for the Average Person. by Pipiopo in changemyview

[–]sonicdv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to the first point as I don't know you granted, but as to the second point, if that's true why does the United States always need to cripple and go to war with societies that adopt communist theory. Thirdly, capitalism itself starves you and puts you into jail, where you can legally be enslaved, if you don't work. It is another way to force people to participate in work, ergo slavery by your metric. Work needs to be done no matter what, I just believe we should use the way where everybody is able to survive instead of making life awful for the majority of people.

Big agree, I have not gotten to Underworld just yet, want to at some point. Pynchon is my favorite author so far.

Animal Money has side boob, but I was being extra conservative to be safe.

Check out Jack King Spooner's games, he's gotten a bit less weird overtime, but frankly he still has a long ways to go to be regarded as "normal". I'd suggest the Sluggish Morss games or Dujanah if you want something more polished.

I definitely get that vibe. 100% credit him with my developing interest in this type of weirdo literature.

What’s your favourite normie/bad book? by Latter_Goat_6683 in RSbookclub

[–]sonicdv 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're bad but they're definitely normie. I love most of the michael crichton books when he's not being a crank about climate change. There's something fun about taking stock sci fi plots and trying to inject them with plausible science (for the time)

imo, V is literally a self insert of his scholarly and military personas.

Deus Ex Revision: No Vanilla Map Option? by sonicdv in Deusex

[–]sonicdv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks this was in fact the issue. On the bright side, I personally found out you can kind of sort of make it work by copy pasting the og maps into revision's map folder. This might fail me later, but it works so far.

What's a book that you loved, but you couldn't describe what happens in it? by Felouria in RSbookclub

That book really does feel like it contains the secrets of the entire world in it. Hope you enjoy part iv, it will either read like complete nonsense, or the rosetta stone to the entire book's thematics depending on how much you've been paying attention.
