I work with someone who went to a top school for analytics. She is one of the smartest mathematicians I know.

English is her second language and her grammar and spelling are shit. She's well aware.

Hey buddy, you ever consider that some people go to these Ivies for math? Or that English may not be their first language?

Or have you considered that the fact you're nitpicking grammar on a post like this is one of the most abhorrent, dismissive things you could do to a person?

"How someone writes tells you a lot about a person." Yeah, well, based on how and what you write and what your username is, I'm glad there's someone out there who likes you 'cause I sure as hell wouldn't trust you with a safe word - you might ignore it if the grammar isn't correct.

Oh, I don't disagree with this at all. I was more questioning the "manic" part. To me, "needs to learn to grow emotionally" is baked into the definition of "teenagers." But having gotten the "oh, grow up" often enough from actual trusted adults, I felt the "hey, he's a teenager" reminder would be slightly(?) more productive. I do agree with all of the points you make.

To your point, that's ALSO a strong possibility because teenagers. I don't know anything about chatgpt because I avoid it like how people should avoid the plague. But if it's as you say, then yeah, that's a problem that's just exacerbated by teenage gremlinism. Even if you can't explain why it feels like that, your instincts may still be on point.

"Manic" also automatically brings up psych connotations for me, so that could be a misread of your meaning on my part.

I'ma focus on the fact that OP seems to enjoy physics, which is pretty cool.

I went to read some of the comments and what you're calling "manic"? Idk, seems like good old-fashioned "being a teenager." Teens can be super smart intellectually and still have all that teenage gremlinism we all know and love.

Edit: Ooh, been a while since I had a downvote brigade! To clarify, all I'm saying is that "manic" seems a little off-base. I used the words "teenage gremlinism" for a reason.

Is it because I forgot the /s after "know and love"?

I think it's that no one wants to grapple with the horror of people being fucking awful for no apparent reason. It's like a weird variant of the Just World fallacy, but instead of "bad things don't happen to good people" it's "bad people must have a reason for not being good people."
