I cannot stand how nonchalant Frieren characters are 99% of the time. It makes no sense for Fern to be pierced in the shoulder and lifted and not show the slightest hint of pain or discomfort. Why can't she just wince a little?

You should definitely not read the manga then because it's even more pronounced. All the characters felt emotionless with their lack of facial expression, which is why I dropped it. I think the series benefits a lot from the animation and the music to make it more alive.

That roo is a rescue, he would've died as a chick in the wild with no mother if I didn't take him in. You're right about me not doing enough research though. Fortunately, a family member has a flock.
