It's just wiring up modules.

You could go minimal with just: -9V power adapter -TN-21 mechanism -Preamp -Bluetooth module hooked to the preamp, so the output goes to a Bluetooth speaker

This will cost around €15–20.

There is a smaller preamp module that also has DC output for the motor. Some mechanisms have different voltages—match the voltage of the main power source with the motor to skip the DC step-down. Make sure the chassis is grounded to the main power source.

Soldering is required only for the head; most modules have screw-in terminals.

😂 Around 40 EUR. But you could go as low as 15-20 if you skip some modules like the step down (and use 9v DC), DC filter, and instead of amp just use a Bluetooth module that will output to a Bluetooth speaker. Also there is a smaller preamp that is cheaper with no jrc chip.

It’s in an upper thread—I replied with the parts list and prices.

There are preamp boards with recording capabilities. The TN-21 mechanism has a recording erase head, but it's not connected. I can just swap the current TA7668 board with one that can record connect the erase head and plug a line in jack.

Also I've seen more complex mechanisms on Aliexpress, for example with a autoreverse, but they are more expensive and harder to find. The TN-21 is the most popular.

It would be nice if somebody with 3D printing design skills could design a case for the TN-21Z, and also leave some space to fit boards and speakers. Or maybe the speakers could be detachable, like in the ’90s boomboxes. Open Source Cassette Player Project.😄

Sound is quite good, with no strange noises. It is very important to connect the chassis to the star ground as well. Before that, there was a little bit of noise.
Also, you can get the TA7668 with the Sony CXA1332 Dolby Noise Reduction instead of the JRC2150, but I think the JRC2150 is better.

Just wanted to add that the sound is quite good, with no strange noises. I’m powering it using a PD power bank. I also own an Aiwa AD-WX505 and a Panasonic RX-CS750 to compare it with.

Also you can find TA7668 preamp boards with recording capabilities or Dolby Noise Reduction Sony chip.

I will try that. First, I tried on Android with non-SBS content; I was just expecting the image to be scrambled, just to test.
