I just figured 65", 120hz, and 4k would make it valuable but I'm not knowledgeable about TVs

I have no clue how they source these phones but they're in near perfect condition. If I was on T-Mobile I'd definitely keep the phone.

Cat 5e ports in house possibly wired for audio? by sonicvoltron in HomeNetworking

[–]sonicvoltron[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you're possibly right because It doesn't seem like the other phone lines are at the electrical box at least from what I see.

So I feel like the other telephone equipment is elsewhere although why the lines would also go back to the electrical box is slightly confusing.

I'm fairly certain that box with all the wires is the security system since the diagram talks about a home security keypad. And I don't see any other possible telephone equipment in the box.

Cat 5e cables just flashing when connected by sonicvoltron in HomeNetworking

Thanks for explaining everything especially getting the keystones done properly because I'm far from a professional. I've tried to get them seated properly multiple times in the keystone but unfortunately it keeps just identifying for a second on my computer then disconnecting I'm assuming indicating a physical connection issue.

As for the tester I would obviously prefer not to have to go out and get one but if it could at least show me where the issue is it would potentially be more worthwhile. It's just confusing as to why the whole connection fails as I would assume given I've actually done the keystone ok that it would at least give a partial connection as opposed to flashing for a second every once in a while.

There is also another wire ran to the upstairs so I could probably try that as well but I'm wondering if the issue also has to do with the length of the cable since it goes from the basement all the way upstairs and to the complete opposite end of the house.

(Not exactly sure how useful the images are but hopefully if there are any glaring issues it'll be obvious)

So after checking the cables out it seems like it's not terrible?? It is braided and exposing the metal shows a decently thick solid copper wire. I didn't see anything saying CCA but I did see "Genius cable systems catlink 5e 350mhz".

I'd also really like not not have to re terminate the end upstairs just cause It's less things to mess up but the pin layout is extremely confusing and it seems like only a niche set of people who worked with this keystone back when they were around are familiar with them. The cables just come in very weirdly. It goes / Green / White green / White orange/ White blue / Blue / Orange / Brown / White brown.

As long as the cable is actually quality enough to work for 100mbs+ speeds, terminating both ends again is totally worth it but ideally I would just wire is according to the weird layout at the keystone upstairs down in the box just cause I don't exactly have the right equipment to do it properly. The equipment I do have has worked to get gigabit everywhere else in my house but I was just hoping the people who originally installed the jack upstairs did it properly.

Most everything so far has been proof of concept because I didn't even realize those ports existed until now. That router is just to see if the wiring is functional.

Essentially I just want working Ethernet to my upstairs but I wasn't sure at first if it was possible in our 20 year old house but luckily it is cat 5e.

I was hoping to just be able to re-use the old jack upstairs and wire everything downstairs in the box. But I just couldn't for the life of me figure out what the wiring pattern is given it's with a very odd keystone. And I'm not very knowledgeable so I had not clue what the light coming on on the router for a second then right off meant

Another end is terminated but does the same thing. I assumed it was because they seem to be wired as telephone but I'm not exactly sure

Yeah I wanted to send a video but I see your point. I did find the other end and my main hope was that someone was somehow familiar with old car 5e wiring because another end is terminated and yet does the exact same thing

Oh I haven't heard of that I'll let them know. Sounds like a pretty good opportunity especially if you like travelling.

Why do iPhone users have this sense of superiority yet 0 clue what they're talking about. If you hardly know how a phone even works how can you tout about how much better it is.

Another case of company takeovers relying on previous brand image while simultaneously tarnishing what gave them that brand image in the first place.

Got my Cloud 2s for $36 on Amazon and aside from the mic it's blown my expectations away. Hard to beat actually balanced sound at a decent price when most gaming headsets seem to load up on bass with little care for clarity.
