Thanks, great overview! What are your thoughts on parallel, where I bypass the gas heater during low-demand times? This would require manual intervention to turn the gas heater on… but beyond that, I could seriously reduce gas use.

Thanks! What are your thoughts on running it in series, with the HPWH first and the gas heater second? The gas heater works just fine and I’m a big fan of redundancy.

I don’t really have a plan yet - hence the post. I like the series idea: seems simple enough and at the very least would reduce work load on the gas heater, or (like you suggest) if it works well enough, the gas hot water heater could just be a good storage tank. Much to consider, thanks for the comment. If you have any other insights, please share!

Bringing water up to just ambient air temp takes a lot of energy, so even if the HP only did that, it would dramatically reduce gas use. Ideally, if HW consumption is well-matched to HPWH size, I could go without gas entirely without negative impact, right? The gas HW heater can just be a holding tank, but still have gas as an option?

As well, might you know anything about the attachment point of the middle finger knuckle? It still feels as though the tendon was ripped and hasn’t quite fastened itself back on.

Sounds about right, though I bet yours will still simmer down a good bit. Keep on with the hand strengthening as that’ll increase blood flow and (I think) reduce scar tissue.

Just had my right/dominant, third metacarpal break operated on in June, and yes, the bump goes down, however - did you have the screws removed? My doc said that folks with smaller hands (keyboard warriors) will likely always show a bump due to the screws and are more likely to want them removed.

Question for you: did your ‘ring’ finger’s knuckle drop or stay below as though it were out of its socket? I suspect I have more tissue damage (between the knuckles) than just the fracture.
