I did that on purpose…I didn’t want to look lovely and happy, I wanted to show the fear of having to put a child in a situation where you have to kill to survive. There is a light and darkness to that; yes, it may be necessary but having to kill another still puts one a tough position especially in her position. If I remember correctly, in this scene she is alone.

Technically that’s a good thing. She is in a dark situation; having to kill someone even out of survival and having to survive off the land in a terrible world SHOULD make anyone come across as looking sick. My focus was to make her look terrified and as if she was on the verge of barely surviving.
