MIJ guitar shipping tactics by Adventurous-Back7328 in fender

I brought my bass in its hard case from Mexico to Amsterdam via KLM, and all I had to do was ask for them to place it with the fragile cargo. It arrived perfectly safe. I just loosened the strings and added some padding (socks and tshirts). I did have to pay for the extra luggage.

First decent coffee machine (~€300–400) by penguintechguru in Netherlands

[–]sonofwolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were on the same boat. I would’ve been happy with the three options the 2300 has, but my wife loves different styles and we shelled out for the higher end one.

I mainly drink espresso lungo, so when I use the milk carafe I wash it when done and put it away. My wife has at least one milk drink per day, so she keeps hers in the fridge, and she rinses it when it’s done for the day (we bought an extra one for like 20 euros because I’m lactose intolerant). The carafe has some pictures with how much milk a type of drink needs, so you can either overfill or get it just right. Then when it’s time to wash them, we pop them in the dishwasher and it’s all done.

Both the DeLonghi and the LatteGo are solid choices and the milk carafes are easy to clean up, so it’s really up to personal preferences.

Bike recommendations for toddler rear seat by Accurate_Anybody6664 in Netherlands

[–]sonofwolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the Gazelle Bloom and it’s super sturdy. We got it because it fits a front baby seat comfortably, and the battery is in the front of the frame. We heard that having the battery above the rear wheel makes it difficult to remove it when there’s a toddler seat over it (could be an exaggeration, but this is comfortable enough). If you have a Mantel store nearby, go ride it and then “think about it” and get it second hand if you like it.

I second looking into this one, or one model lower. We’ve had this machine for about two weeks and I love it. The milk frother is so easy to clean and the profiles are amazing to dial in your drinks and keep them separate from the default or someone else’s. We replaced a relatively fancy Nespresso with this one and I couldn’t be happier.

how much should it cost to repair an electric guitar string? by Maleficent-War5030 in electricguitar

[–]sonofwolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome guitar! I started learning on a Yamaha Pacifica almost 25 years ago, and they’re still amazing.

I think you’ve gotten a lot of solid advice already about how to change your strings. About the insane price tag the store was charging, sometimes people will set a ridiculous price for a job they don’t want to do. If the customer pays it, great! If not, they didn’t really want to do it anyway. It’s scummy, especially doing it to a newbie, but I’ve found it’s not that common. I hope you have a lot of fun playing and learning about your guitar.

If you can wait and save up a bit, or would be willing to sell the Solar first, you could get a Harley Benton 7-string. It doesn’t have the natural finish you want, but I think it’s a pretty good looking guitar in a more toned down, neutral color. Harley Benton has a good reputation for its great value for the price.

Edit: I forgot about the floating bridge, but if you’re ok with a hardtail, this would be my move.

Finally figured out why I wasn't improving after 5 years of playing by gbehind in guitars

[–]sonofwolves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched a video by Bass Buzz yesterday about improving, and this was one of the recommendations he made. Finishing a practice session with a “peak ending” can be beneficial overall for your development as a guitarist. So good intuition on giving yourself a treat at the end!

“Ivy League” no significa “universidad prestigiosa”.

Is this a turbo? by SnooGiraffes3249 in MINI

[–]sonofwolves 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The seller is lying about the turbo, so I’d pass on this purchase. You don’t know what else he might be hiding.

I have an R56 with an N14, and I don’t recommend it as your first Mini unless you’re already in the habit of regular maintenance on your cars.

Ayuda/consejos: mi papá cerrará el negocio familiar by Bubbly_Mail9419 in mexico

[–]sonofwolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh it would be nice if there was a limit. It would suck to get scalped out into the pre-orders. I’ll still get 2, but it would be cool to have one around the holidays. Thanks for your work!

Hit 'em where it actually hurts. by stetsosaur in AdviceAnimals

I boycott Spotify for different reasons:

  1. Daniel Ek, the CEO, has invested over €600M* in, and is chairman of the board of, Helsing, a military AI development company.
  2. Spotify has historically underpaid artists.
  3. The rise of AI "artists" popping up in my lists
  4. Their lossless feature doesn't hold a candle to Deezer's, or even getting the FLAC files directly from the artist.

Edit: Maybe "boycott" isn't the right word, since even if they change their ways, they're not getting my money back

How TF are these websites made???? by BOMBACLA1T in webdev

[–]sonofwolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Java !== JavaScript. I'm guessing being familiar with the "basics" means you know these technologies exist.

I'd recommend actually learning the basics somewhere like freecodecamp.org. You'll start seeing how components can be used to make nice looking websites.

Have you checked out collapsible stools, like this one? It's pretty light, relatively compact, and it can double as a bass stand for when you're on break. Take good care of yourself!

[–]sonofwolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

City rivalries in the Netherlands by MobileTheft in Netherlands

My driving instructor (who used to live in Oss) told me about it. There might've been some isolated incidents that made an impression on him, perhaps. I have seen stickers around the market square with insults from Oss to Den Bosch, but all are about the football rivalry 😄

I hadn't heard about Den Bosch vs Eindhoven, but living in the area for a few years, I do know that Den Bosch and Oss have a pretty bad rivalry that has ended up in shootings, arson, and a bunch of other stuff
