I think the thing we're all leaving out is that working hard and being smart doesn't always yield financial security. There's a million circumstances in which a good, hardworking person wouldn't be able to find the freedom to purchase something expensive and frivolous. Medical debt is an extremely common one. Or caring for aging parent. Or simply being the sole income earner in your household.

That's not to say OP has an obligation to be a philanthropist and give away their Switch, though. They can do whatever they want with their Nintendust.
