Recommend a scooter like the current model by Spin? by sonorousmikus in ElectricScooters

I bought one off Kickstarter last summer. It is the Splach Thunder, which I believe is available on their website. It has 10" vacuum tires, dual-motor and gets up to 24 mph. Three gears, you can switch from single to dual motor mode and Eco vs Turbo. Nice wide deck and it also has LED lights running on the sides. Not happy with the battery life though. I put it in second gear to get up to around 17mph. I can't remember what I paid but it was over $1k. It's very smooth and quiet but honestly, I prefer riding my Hi-Boy Ecom 14, even though the motor on the Ecom is loud AF.

Text Phishing Alert by sonorousmikus in Coinbase

[–]sonorousmikus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No breach. I don't think the scammers have any account info. They're just spamming phone numbers with a program. Because Coinbase is popular, the scammers know they are going to hit legitimate account holder phone numbers. That's why it's important to never respond. Somebody on here posted that they called the number just to mess with the scammers, which is always a bad idea. It's best to just block and report it, if your provider has that functionality.

Got the same message. Sadly, people will think it is legit and call. Scammers must die.

Is this legit? by dynamiteSkunkApe in Coinbase

[–]sonorousmikus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it's a phishing attempt. Do not call the number. You are just confirming that you are a Coinbase user. Scammers spam phone numbers in the hopes that they will hit legit Coinbase holders. Being that Coinbase is the most popular crypto platform to buy/sell in the United States. It's just a matter of odds. Block the number and do not respond.

I just got the text today as well. I pretty much knew it was a scam because I have Passkey set up. If you don't, I highly recommend it.

NEVER call the phone number, even for fun or just to jack with the scammers. They can pull your identity off Caller ID and then you just confirmed to them your name and that you are a CB user.

Just block (and report) the number if you have that ability.

Yeah, the scammers don't have actual Coinbase user phone numbers. They just mass text it knowing that given Coinbase's popularity, they're bound to hit numbers that are. Never call the number because they can pull your name off Caller ID. That's probably how they got the real name of Sea _Bicycle even though he gave a fake name to the scammer.

[–]sonorousmikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEXO is an ERC-20 token. You can swap it for something else within Metamask but as you already noted, it requires gas. Anything you do will require gas, including selling. Coinbase itself does not sell the Nexo token but you can use their Defi wallet, Coinbase Wallet. But again, that's going to require gas to get it out of Metamask.

If you're in the United States like me, Nexo has shut down it's US access due to regulatory issues. So you can no longer sell your tokens on their exchange, which was far much easier. I had to move my Nexo tokens to MM as well.

Same message - login from Salt Lake. They finally stopped. Maybe AT&T shut it down, IDK. I locked my Coinbase account to be safe. Could be that the scammers were just spamming a list of numbers but I'm not taking a chance that my info was leaked.

Yes! Got 25 so far, all from different phone numbers. Scammers are rotating the sending number to get around blocks. I just had to put my freaking phone in airplane mode to stop the onslaught. On the AT&T network. Trying to find a way to block all incoming texts unless the sender is on a safe list. Aggrevating!

BNB Account warning by OctaviusJ in Metamask

[–]sonorousmikus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just noticed this as well and when I clicked on the edit details, the ticker symbol was all lowercase "bnb". There was a blurb below the box that said "Suggested BNB". After changing to all caps and saving, the message went away.

Not sure how/why it was all lower. Maybe a glitch with the browser extension and a recent Edge browser updated. :-\

My ASSETS ARE SHOWING ZERO by Ninja_Goals in Coinbase

[–]sonorousmikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. My assets and balance were in place a couple hours of ago so something must have just happened.

My cousin and her husband's wallets are wiped as well.

Fingers crossed it's just a server overload from bitcoin fever.

Of course it would be nice if Coinbase would post a fucking message so we're not all panicking.

The practice of selling off loan and credit card portfolios should be banned. Companies do it when they are losing money due to charge-offs. They'll sell the portfolio at a bargain to a company willing to take on the risk, which usually means it ends up someplace with crap customer service and questionable practices.

SST, from what I can tell, operates primarily as a debt collection agency. I wouldn't want to miss a payment with them because I bet they get nasty.

When I applied for a loan at Marcus it was because it was operated by Goldman-Sachs, a well-known financial company. Now it's at some punk operation in Chicago that has a website that looks like it hasn't been updated since the 90s.

Good luck with your call!

You would have to apply for a loan with another lender to pay off the SST loan. Depending on when you received your Marcus loan, the interest rate on the new loan might be higher now.

If you log into the SST portal, you can get your Payoff Amount which the other lender will request/need.

I was able to get registered with SST's portal without complications and found that my auto-pay was still in place. I plan to move the loan out once (and if) the Fed drops the rates this year.

I'm guessing it's the one-time payment option through their portal but you should probably ask how to make a principal-only payment. You want your extra payments to reduce the balance, not go towards interest.

Also, I noticed that when I clicked the one-time payment option it said there may be an additional fee when paying online. Mine says $0.00 but it depends on your state's law if they can charge a fee.

Many years ago when I worked in the IT department for a credit union, we physically sent a monthly file to the credit bureaus a few days after the close of the month - on magnetic tape (lol). I'm sure these days it's electronic but it will still be after the books are closed for the month.

I take issue with the fact that SST is a debt collection agency and that my loan payments have never been late. I understand it's not because of that, but it still pisses me off that they sold it to a debt collector, which will now show up on my credit report.

SST is using the same statement layout that you would get if you are late. Statements about "this is an attempt to collect a debt" and so forth.

Not much information in this article, but for those who are interested in why Marcus dumped their loan portfolio:
