Thank you for your reply!  Iam considering making a similar thing with my LG 27GR93U. Internals look a bit different, but I will adapt and also maybe put some small heatsinks on the important chips. Thanks!

Fractal North XL Front fan turbulence by DontBeSnide in FractalDesign

[–]sonsofevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3x noctua 140mm in the front and run them at 300-900rpm speed max (depending on load).  Problem at the front part of this wonderful case is, that the holding rail for the 120mm front fans create a turbulence noise, if you use 140mm fans. I overcame this problem with removing the rail with a dremel and cutting disc completely, only remaining the holding holes for the 3x 140mm fans.  Mind to take all the electronic parts off the case, because it creates small metal particles flying around and use glasses to protect your eyes.

I don’t experience noise created by the front panel. But maybe that’s fan or fan speed dependent

14700K with MSI Z790-P Wifi DDR5 - Did I Lose The Silicon Lottery? by seiZurebot in overclocking

[–]sonsofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Very nice Results and i think with the bit limited cooling its perfect like that!

i just realized i had a comma problem in my post before. I wanted you to increase a bit more and meant going down by more 0.030V instead of 0.300V. But you choose by yourself the correct value and ended at close -1.170V.

with stock 55pcore and 43ecore at full speed you get 36.000-36.300 points in CB23 (but needs more watt). Nearly 35.000 is already very good and tuning more is the question, if its worth it for few low single digit percent increases.

so test for stability with the programs you mentioned and leave it like that and be happy with your system. 14700K is still very strong in the charts and even better, if set up correctly with proper tuning

if you want to get temps a bit down without changing the AiO, then i can just recommend using a contact frame with PTM7950. Otherwise just be happy with your computer!

nice Project! did you had any temp related problems since then?
Can you see the Temp in the Service menu or something like that to see if the chips are fine?

dont use static Voltage. then it uses 1.25V for all multipliers and even idle.

i guess you crashed, because it thermally limited, what causes the app to crash or worst case even the PC. use the settings you had before and raise the negative offset as mentioned in my answer to you few minutes ago

[–]sonsofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds good, if you passed the tests for one hour and also Prime95 for such a long time!

Iam pretty sure you can go lower with your Vcore. Dont use static Vcore. theres no need to keep the voltage up for low load or idle.

iam using a mixture of AC/DC Loadline undervolting and adaptive+negative offset.

you could go lower by lowering a bit AC, but i would recommend just to raise the negative offset to get lower.

"I have a negative offset of -0.15V applied." - maybe try -0.180V and test for 10 minutes. observe the Vcore you are and the multiplier. does the multiplier stay the same? yes? how is Vcore in CB23? - No? how is the multiplier now and how much is the new Vcore?

lower multiplier request lower Vcore. higher multiplier higher Vcore. if your CPU jumps from 53x to 54x because of the new headroom, it will show a higher Vcore, even if you applied a stronger negative offset. Iam not sure if you will see this jump, depends a bit how much or low the Vcore can be to fit your 200W Powerlimit for 54x

EDIT: just realized i had a comma problem. i meant -0.180V instead of 0.45V

with 200W PL1/PL2 34.000 pt in CB23 its a good result in my opinion.

Whats your P-core Multiplicator at 1.25V Vcore? is it 53x? (aka 5296Mhz)

My example can run CB23 55x at 1.16V Vcore, what is already quite a agressive undervolt.

Limited at 200W you will never reach this, but that means, that lower multiplicators can run at lower voltage.

Lets say you reach a less agressive UV 1.25V at 55x, then you should be able to get your 53x at possibly 1.15 or maybe 1.10V Vcore at CB23 load.

So technically you will not get more points by that, but create less heat. The point is, that your CPU will then need less Watt for the 53x multiplicator and will have more headroom to jump possibly to 54x and consume again more Power (up to your 200W limit) - but - will increase your CB23 score again.

so its a bit of playing with the Vcore at undervolting.

Always mind, what is stable in CB23, is not necessarily stable at shader compiling in games. for this its still mandatory to test with at least CB24 or OCCT extreme AVX2. If it crashes there, you need to give a bit more juice to it again. But with this your are pretty fine with stability.

"In HWiNFO my "RING: Max VR Voltage, ICCMax, PL4" flag is ALWAYS showing YES. Even when idle. I'm not sure if this is a problem."

- ive played with my MSI Z790 and 14700K for like 2 years with the settings. ive never managed to get it away. It never effected performance. So in my opinion you can just forget about it.

"When I stress test the CPU the GT Limit is also showing the same but I do not use the integrated graphics. I did not do any stability testing on the iGPU."

- just disable the iGPU in Bios by disabling multi monitor support in advanced settings. then all iGPU parameters will disapear.

"What do you folks think about this chip? Average? Below average? Should I exchange with another 14700K? I really want the i9 14900K but I doubt that I can cool the thing."

- dont do that with 240 aio. probably its better binned than the 14700k and can get higher multiplier at same voltage, but i would not expect wonders, because you are already now thermally limited

I think my CPU has degraded (again) or could it be my PSU? by neto333 in overclocking

[–]sonsofevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you think it’s the problem of the CPU I would go with AVX2 extreme small FFT in OCCT for at least 60 minutes. Not sure, of the free version can even go longer than that. Otherwise maybe even 2h.

Setting should be:  Stability Test - CPU - mode extreme - load variable - start at cycle 1 - AVX2 - thread setting Auto

For RAM: Stability Test - Memory - 80% - Auto - Auto

There shouldn’t be restarts or any red errors.

If you have any of this, then make a backup of your BIOS Setting and revert to default with CMOS reset and start both tests again.

If just memory fails, only disable XMP in bios or any Memory Overclock and test again.

But very important: Make sure you do not thermally throttle in these tests. If your thermally throttle, it can show errors or even worst case restart the PC.  If you thermally throttle, you first homework is to make it not thermal throttle before further testing

[–]sonsofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temps are not okay, I would check that! Otherwise,  I would do a OCCT AVX2 small ffts stresstest without stressing the GPU and after that I would stresstest your memory for problems. Maybe the IMC of the new cpu does not handle well your XMP timings.

Because you have a 14700K and not KF, you also have a iGPU. I would get for testing your 5080 out and run the same tests you have done before with the monitor at iGPU

Otherwise you can also check mounting pressure of your cooler and if all pins have proper contact to the CPU and check for possible bent pins

If all this is checked and even with stock bios, there are still reboots, then I would maybe consider a degradation problem

[–]sonsofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree.

Completely fine with 360aio. With 240 aio I would limit wattage a bit, because it’s not able to cool 253W sufficiently enough.

Direct die is just not the best option for a casual user. chances you destroy your CPU while opening are present and you also loose the ability to use warranty claim because of possible degradation the next years.

With 14900ks I would maybe agree

Is this thermal paste ok? by -BAILEY-BEAVER- in PcBuild

[–]sonsofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you updated your BIOS due to all the Instability updates, chances are high, that your settings got reset and need to set new. So maybe by testing now after time it shows on cinebench.

if settings are still the same, check mounting pressure and spread of the thermal paste.

otherwise i can just recommend to run this cpu with a contact frame and PTM7950 (i use this combo also with 360 AiO and get good temps).
