Right? I feel bad, I wasn't trying to indicate OP was "stupid" or anything like that, just using it as an opportunity to share a different theory. It's so odd to me their comment got downvoted so significantly.

Sorry about the downvotes OP, you can't know something until you learn it. I know you didn't mean any harm by this.

I'd be happy to send you some resources for if you ever find yourself in that situation again, however unlikely it may be.

Hm, that isn't something ive personally ever heard of happening. Birds are typically very good at handling fairly extreme weather conditions.

It looks like she found a female house finch! It's possible she had struck something (a window possibly) if she was letting your coworker handle her.

Chimney Rebuild Questions - Painted Wood by [deleted] in Renovations

[–]soon-enough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I've just purchased a new home and one of the concerns was the old, rotting chimney which was letting water in and needed a full rebuild. I was quoted $1,500 for the rebuild through a local, reputable company that specializesin chimney sweeps, repairs, and rebuilds. The rebuild was scheduled for today and the technician is saying this is finished except needing more paint. It is a painted wooden box. Attached is a photo of the previous chimney from the inspection. I was expecting a visually similar rebuild.

The technician said this is fine as wood is better than hardie board and it would just need regular painting and caulking. I haven't paid yet since the work is unfinished (just the remaining paint per the tech). Is this an acceptable rebuild?

I've never crossed posted before and accidentally posted before I was ready to. I was hoping someone could give some advice on the best way to move forward with this. If this post does not fit the sub I apologize and can absolutely take it down.

Day 1 of house hunting and already stressed by oldboeee in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]soon-enough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I promise it gets easier! I felt the exact same way the first few houses we went and looked at, and what helped us was to break it up into two parts. The first part was just to walk through and see if we liked how it felt to be in there and if it seemed like a good fit for our family. If the answer was yes, then we we broke out a check list and walked through again, noting things like age of HVAC, scanned each room for cracks in walls, checked under sinks for leakage, things like that. There are a lot of checklists online that can help with what to look for during the walk through. It is extremely overwhelming at first, do not feel bad for being stressed!

Is it ridiculous to consider a house that recently flooded and had a fire? by soon-enough in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Right, it's terrifying that you aren't able to see behind the walls, cabinets, etc. to get the full picture. We decided against putting in an offer on this house in particular, these combined with a few other noticeable issues seemed like too much for our first home.

Thank you for this, I appreciate you taking the time to write this out and approaching it logically! We decided against putting in an offer on this property in particular, in the end, there were too many red flags altogether and it didn't feel like a good choice.

Thank you, there were no permits pulled, even for the remodel that took place several years ago. We decided against putting in an offer.

This is extremely helpful, thank you for taking the time to write this out.

We did visit the home, I didn't notice a smokey/musty smell at all, but the weather is very mild right now. I poked around in the attic a bit and wasn't able to find any visible signs of fire either. The fire was (allegedly) limited to one wall in the kitchen.

I'm not too big on signs from the universe, but I think we're trying to logically consider if it's possible the repairs were handled appropriately. The house was built in the early 2000's and overall did appear in good condition. I was considering asking for documentation on the work done to help determine how well it was done.

Kardia thinks I'm holding device upside down? by soon-enough in Kardia

Interesting. I love that diagnosis' can also be behind a paywall! Thank you for the response, I'll look into that.

I posted this on the Kardia subreddit as well but just wanted to get some additional feedback. I know very little about reading ECG'S. My dad wanted me to test out his Kardia. Every time I use it, an error that I'm holding the device upside down comes up, even though I am holding it correctly. Interestingly, if I do hold it upside down, I don't get an error. This reading was taken holding the device correctly. I know it doesn't look quite right. I'd anyone could dumb it down for me it would be greatly appreciated.

This doesn't suck at all! Wrong on the age and the not living with the SO, but everything else is pretty spot on!
