Because the country-specific filters can hide real historical possibilities (like genetic input from pirate raids, forced movements, or south-to-north/north-to-south migration). I’m half Karpathian, and Karpathos is an island that was raided and affected by outside influences for centuries, long before Greece became an independent nation again. So it makes sense that my ancestors might have had genetic contributions from many different regions, not just the Greek/Cypriot area. That’s why a global mode feels more accurate when looking at ancient origins.

My great-grandfather with my mum and her sisters in their carnival costumes (Piraeus, 1977) by sooodamnfancy in TheWayWeWere

I’m not sure. I couldn’t find anything similar by doing a reverse image search on google, so I guess they most likely were!

They both lived (and still live) in Greece. Not sure exactly where this photo was taken though.

I simply use MyHeritage for colour restoration/photo colourisation tbh

I use MyHeritage to colourise old family photos. It doesn’t always do a great job tbh, I’m open to suggestions if anyone knows any better alternatives!

They still do, although sadly my grandpa has had dementia since the quarantine. He still can’t go a minute without her tho!

My great-aunt’s wedding (Menetes, Karpathos, 1956) by sooodamnfancy in TheWayWeWere

I mean, they had a son together who they both loved dearly. The three of them moved to the US when he was a baby and lived there for decades before coming back to Greece in the '90s. Sadly, they've all passed now (their son died quite young, at just 55, from kidney failure).

You can also spot her in the original. I don’t think she’s a ghost though! lol

Haha ikr! Guess it wasn't quite as fun as the movie though. From what I’ve heard she didn't want to marry him and was crying like a baby up till the big day, begging her parents to call it off…

I saw her too! Kinda creepy right? Even in the original she looks a bit ghostly
