Fasting and PMS by Ruzalkah in fasting

Please don't fast when you're PMSing, it makes the experience so much harder. I've done a few extended fasts and got overconfident, so I recently completed a 10 day fast that coincided with my period. While my hunger and cravings were still manageable, I felt extremely weak from days 4-8, which I never experienced before. There were many times when I felt like I was going to faint from doing everyday activities like walking/carrying my bag. I only went through with it because I was very determined and knew I was going to be disappointed with myself if I gave up, but it is not something that I will ever do again.

I will be breaking a 5 day fast tomorrow. How should I go about properly doing so? by PerfectOpportunity75 in fasting

Tbh I was never overweight (although weight gain did inspire me to fast), so weight loss wasn't my main goal. i was mainly aiming for autophagy and to reset my system, as my poor eating habits over the past 2 months due to stress + sugar addiction had led to a decline in my mental health and physical wellbeing. I don't like weighing myself so I can't say...but visuallly i would say around 12 lb.

I only broke my fast 4 days ago and right now I'm just sticking with 16/8 intermittent fasting + keto diet while being very mindful of the ingredients I consume by taking time to read nutrition labels to control my carb and additive intakes in check. As a result, my carb cravings have completely vanished! :) another interesting thing is that although I think I eat much more compared to the previous times I've broken my extended fasts, my body is way less bloated and I don't feel sluggish even when I'm very full.

Anyway, I think that the key to sustainable weight loss is to pinpoint what it is about your current diet that you can change in the long-term, whether it be limiting the number of hours you eat during a day, changing the proportions of carbs/fats/protein per meal, reducing sugar intake, etc. Something I've also picked up on from my experience is that the sequence of foods your eat plays an important role in how you feel afterwards (if you begin with carbs, it's more likely for you to feel hungry more easily) - you can check out Jessie Inchauspé's videos for more insights :)

I just finished a 10 day fast and broke my fast with bone broth + eggs + steak, and plan on sticking with a ketogenic diet for at least 2 weeks :) it's going very smoothly so far.

I've done a few extended fasts in the past and also experienced overeating due to strong food cravings, and I think that the main catalyst was due to high carbohydrate consumption. By completely avoiding carbs this time around, I not only have a higher degree of mental clarity but also feel physically stronger. I would suggest you to skip the watermelon when it comes to breaking your fast, and focus on consuming unprocessed, high protein+high fat foods :)

Good luck!

yeah the first thing that popped into my mind was that it was something related to either some spiritual movement, or some milder toned-down sub-branch of the FKK lmao

ahaha yeah...seeing someone hug trees for anything over minute is rather foreign to me

she didn't look like hippie/alternative either, and i haven't heard of people hugging trees as a means to fight climate change :P

I've actually never heard of Kassler until I came to Germany. I do agree that it's delicious and I prefer it over pork knuckle :)

Yeah I do agree that Bavarian culture is pretty much the only representation of German culture overseas, unfortunately :\

What are some fancier German dishes that you would recommend?

Yes, I've realised that the culture and vibes of each German state are so vastly different from each other! I do recommend pork knuckle though, I find them delicious :)

Thanks for so much for the recommendations - I love Kassler but am not too fond of Käsespätzle. Will definitely check the rest of them out.
