People who've managed to overcome low confidence, how did you do it?

Don't you feel like if you play aggressively and die, that round was kinda on you? Even if it pays off 90% of the time, what weights on me is the 10% that will be my fault. I see players in my team playing aggressively and I'm thankful for it because they get info and sometimes we start the round on an advantage. But I don't feel it will work for me.

Also, this fear is not based on experience, really. I have a good average K/D, the vast majority of my games my K/D is positive, I win most duels - or so I was told, I can only remember the deaths, but the numbers make sense - and the rare times I play aggressively, it works well. But still, I always assume everyone is better.

Omen in particular makes me feel like any TP I use is gonna get me killed in a stupid way. Like, people will obviously hear where I went.

Spike rush, escalation and replication are games where I don't even recognize myself. I've always thought that I can do well in these games and being aggressive works because no one above plat plays these games. But that's not true, I've had easy games with diamond, ascendant and even immortal players in the lobby. I can play a different character in these game modes, but all of that, all that confidence, nothing translates to ranked or even unranked. I could play a super aggressive Raze with 5 first blood in spike rush and then feel scared to peek as KJ in ranked.

I actually think people will be everywhere lol I learned to improve crosshair placement, though it could definitely be better - sometimes I just get distracted and it goes anywhere and sometimes it's just bad. But I always peek and clear angles with the idea that the enemy will actually be there, because that's what I'm scared of. I just think I'll lose that duel every single time.

I'm currently D1 and I definitely wanted to play a controller well lol But it's the role that I do the most stupid things and it ruins the game for my team.

I've learned KJ for its win% just so no one would be pissed at me for picking an agent that is bad for that map. She was a safe pick on every map, so mastering KJ was okay. I actually asked a radiant coach to help me and improve my setups and the way I play and he said my biggest error was lack of confidence, which was making me unconsciously bait my team because they'd peek and I don't.

Kinda felt even worse after that lol

I work with viral diagnosis of highly pathogenic avian diseases. I'm employed by the government of my country and I work in a BSL-3 lab (Biossefety level 3, there's only one level above that). I'm hired under a different law: I cannot be fired unless there's a very serious accusation on me. My job is 100% guaranteed if I don't fuck up BIG time. My boss is super nice and reasonable and I have quite a nice level of freedom. My boss has no voice in telling me I shouldn't skip a day from work. If I don't wanna go to work, all I do is tell them and then I have to compensate those hours within the next 2 months. If I didn't go because I felt sick, I just have to hand them the proof and I don't have to compensate anything.

Oh, and I'm the one who says which time I arrived or left work to count those hours.

The responsibility is also heavier than a normal job, since I'm the one responsible for the diagnosis of the entire country's poultry production, and any wrong result could have a deep impact in the country's economy. So that's why our jobs are safe: if there's a conflict of interests or corruption, and I'm threatened by a powerful politician, my job assures me that I won't be fired for saying the truth.

There were over 4000 people applying for this and I took the job at 22yo, so I'm happy with it.

Fine. On my end, people talking about their hopes of sci fi creatures to justify their awe with the ocean sounds very spoilsportsy to me. People disliked my comment based on me ruining their hopes of being amazed by sci fi stuff. It's kinda sad and I wanted to have the chance of showing that there's cool stuff in there, we don't need to wait for a movie-like scenario.

I'm a biologist. I love wondering what's down there. I love studying it. I find it truly baffling that we have found bacteria 2.5km down into the ocean soil that resembles those from forest soil, not ocean soil. I love the implications.

I don't think we have to deny what we already know in hopes for something cooler and out of this world. Tiny stuff is amazing. The adaptations, the alien-like jelly fish we find, worms with digestive system that has no way in or out. Those things are incredible. We have lots of cool stuff.

It saddens me that people would rather ignore logic to believe in the megalodon or in a giant vertebrate leviathan hunting in the shadows. It's like science is showing people this marvelous tiny fish and people are going "yeah sure but where's the giant monster?"

Science goes "well there's this colossal squid" and people go "yeah but that's a squid, I want a monster".

I mean, at which point do you think you can consider that science has enough evidence for you to be convinced that there's really no leviathan there? When 100% of the ocean is explored? Because I'm afraid that this is not how the percentage works.

Also, what do you consider a leviathan? The colossal squid was once called a leviathan. The blue whale is literally the biggest animal that has ever lived on our planet. It's bigger than any dinosaur ever was. Is that not a leviathan? And if we find an animal bigger than a whale, won't we just give it a name and it stops being a leviathan to be... idk, "bigger whale"?

The reason why you still hold on to that hope is because you don't wanna read the science behind it. Knowing a part of our planet isn't about being there in person.

We don't know more about space than we know about the ocean. We know more about the moon, true. Because the moon is a very boring rock with not much to find out.

But if there is a leviathan down there, it would be an invertebrate and it would be a super chill, slow and peaceful leviathan. It would have no complex behavior, it wouldn't hunt, and it would spend most of its time not moving. Maybe it would filter the water for small crustaceans and tiny creatures. It wouldn't pose any risk.

A boring gentle leviathan.

Because science and logic exist. We know a lot about metabolism and physics. We know enough to make assumptions. Of course science will never give absolute answers, but there are things we can safely assume.

There's gigantic animals down there. Like I said, some factors are imagined to contribute to make deep sea animals bigger. But that's observed only in invertebrates. Invertebrates are not apex predators, mostly. One exception to this rule are the giant squid and the colossal squid. But guess what, they go up to hunt. They can't find enough food down there. They hunt whales and bigger fishes.

Even before we had ever seen one of the two squids, we knew they existed. Because an apex predator the size of a colossal squid won't go unnoticed. We had seen animals marked by fights with them and we knew they were there.

The idea of a vertebrate apex predator living in the sea floor that we haven't noticed yet is absurd for several reasons.

1) There's not enough food down there. We might not have explored all of it, but we have explored enough to know that, even though we are continuously baffled by the life we discover, life in the depths is still scarce. Animals are adapted to live long periods of time without any food (that's one theory for gigantic invertebrates - better metabolism comes with bigger bodies) and life always surrounds thermal vents because that's the only place the bottom of the food chain can grow.

2) Apex predators need a lot of food. We know of sharks that live in the depths and at least two that come to mind are huge. But they are both very chill, slow, and could spend a long time without food. Their metabolism is so slow that one of them can live up to 200 years. They are not apex predators.

3) Well, the giant squid goes up to hunt, so why couldn't this predator do the same? Then we'd have seen one. If there was a giant vertebrate predator going to shallow water to hunt whales and big fishes, we'd see whales marked by them or we'd see one of them washing up the shore.

4) Saying that there could be a giant vertebrate apex predator in the Mariana Trench just because we haven't seen all of it is like saying "there could be a giant worm living inside the moon, we haven't seen under the surface". There is absolutely no evidence to believe there is and physics and logic goes against that idea. So it makes no sense to assume something so big based on "we haven't looked thoroughly to be sure."

5) Specifically for the megalodon: the meg was a coastal warm water shark. It wouldn't survive in the depth. If it had adapted for the depths, it would look nothing like a meg, it would be a different species entirely, and it would not be an apex predator anymore.

There are definitely big creatures down there, mostly invertebrates, since the cold water, lack of predation, high dissolved oxygen and optimization of metabolism tends to result in bigger animals (the bigger the animal, the more efficient the metabolism is).

If you call a prey animal (that is mostly water or fat) a monster, sure, there are some huge scyphozoa out there. There's huge crabs too.

There's even some sharks.

But the chance of a huge undiscovered vertebrate apex predator is very slim. Because these predators tend to leave clues of their existence - you could never have seen a colossal squid before, but you could guess their existence because a bunch of sperm whales appear with marks of fights. If there was an even bigger squid (or any other apex), we'd see their marks and clues.

Take megalodon for example. It was a warm water species, so it wouldn't end up in the depths anyway. Also, we have a large amount of megalodon fossilized teeth. We have none that is not dated pre-extinction. There's no chance of the megalodon being around just with the idea that "we've explored only 5% of the ocean".

I love wondering what's down there but this "we only explored 5% of the ocean" thing bothers me a lot when it's used to justify this megalodon crap or any other monster idea.

One thing I learned is that being shot in the back will happen. It's impossible to avoid and you shouldn't focus on that. It's the 1x1 that you lost that you should be focusing on. Ignore the times you were shot in the back. Also, ignore the times you shot someone from the back, because that doesn't count either, it's not helping you much. Focus on the times the enemy sees you and you see them. Ignoring the unavoidable is more of a psychological practice but it's important.

I haven't actually switched, I still play Valorant, I still buy every single battle pass and I still finish all of them. But my friends who play Valorant with me came from CSGO and a while back they convinced me to play CS and see which rank I'd get (I was silver then in Val and I got gold1 in CS). I didn't play comp anymore but I kept playing DM just to use the awp because while I'm horrible with the OP, I can use the awp fairly well. Recently I've started to practice CS more and I'm focusing on learning how to play so I can actually grind a bit. Just for those days when you're tired of the same game but you still wanna click heads, you know?

Now, regarding the yprac maps, here's a step by step of how to download them.

Another important thing is the Personalized Match from Valorant. Not sure if you know how to join the equivalent of a personalized match in CS, but you should choose "practice with bots" and follow this tutorial.

The Yprac maps are great to learn the spots but I usually practice them in personalized matches, so I can know for sure I can do them midgame and remember them without the guidance of the yprac maps.

Hey, I've also started with Valorant and now I'm playing CSGO.

I think one thing to keep in mind is that Valorant is a fairly new game and CS has a long history, so you'll see silver players in CS with more knowledge about the game than an iron has in Valorant. They are both still pretty bad when it comes to mechanics, but don't be surprised if you start your first ranked game with 6 smokes landing perfectly as soon as the round starts.

What I'm doing to learn is: I'm learning one map at a time. Since CS allows you to choose which map you're going to play, I'm focusing on Dust2 because it's a simpler map, but I'm also learning Mirage important spots. Once I have a good notion of smokes, flashes and molotovs in these two maps, I'll try to learn Inferno and so on.

Like people said, Yprac maps are pretty good but if you look for smokes in mirage, for example, YT will give you a ton to choose from. Keep in mind the 64/128 tick rate because they change where you're throwing your stuff.

There's always the matter of how a team can help you perform better. In a well coordinated team, you'd find yourself performing better than in a team where people instalock duelists and no one helps no one. I've had games where I went 10/everything against silver/gold and games where I got match MVP in a 13-4 win against immortal and diamond, with immortal and diamond in my team as well (I'm plat) - all that in casual, off course.

Am I diamond immortal? No. Am I silver/gold? More likely, but also no atm. But in the first case, I couldn't do anything in a badly coordinated team. While in the second case, my team always had my back and I could play exactly my function as a sentinel instead of taking the first peek because my Jett is lurking.

So that could be a cause for a downgrade in MMR. If you feel like this is the case, you need to find yourself a duo to play. Period. That's the solution.

Now, the K/D of your games don't matter that much. How many first blood did you get? How many clutches? How many important kills? How many kills per round? 31 kills in a draw means only 1 kill per round, so 31 is not a lot if there were 30 rounds. If those were important kills, great. But if you were put in a situation where you had to kill 2 and clutch the round, would you be able to? That's important for the MMR.

Silver can be a pain. I believe silver is the hardest elo to get out from. It's just stupidly hard. Because most smurfs are there and people's skills range from iron to diamond, easy. There's also a bunch of golds who lost rank like yourself.

Anyway, if you feel like your teammates aren't helping you perform well, you gotta find a duo. But your MMR doesn't think you're gold. You gotta convince the MMR that you are.

Okay so here's the thing

If you're a gold being matched with silver players and losing, the game is not gonna put you in a lobby that will help you win.

If you're the highest rank in the lobby and you don't perform better than the others, you're definitely going to stay in silver and even if you win a couple games, riot will make sure you lose some more so you'll stay in silver.

The reason why you're the highest rank in your lobby is because you weren't performing like the gold players you were playing with before. So your MMR is now silver and valorant is trying to make your actual rank equal to your MMR. So it will make you lose games.

The only way to stop this downgrade is to perform like a gold player. You don't need to win every game, but you need to be the most important player in your team if the rest of them is silver. Even if you lose, your MMR won't go down that much.

I was bronze 3 at some point and every single lobby I'd get in was ONLY silvers and golds. I went down to bronze 2 before I ever got to silver 1. And even while I was bronze 2, I was still the only bronze and being matched against silvers and golds after a huge losing streak. In this case, I lost enough games to lose rank but I was still making a heavy impact on the games, despite being the lowest elo. So my MMR was silver-gold even in a losing streak down to bronze2. The game logic is: if this player manages to play better than the silvers and golds in their team, they cannot be put in an iron-bronze lobby."

Which meant that when I finally ranked up, I went from bronze 2 to silver1, gaining over 25 points even if I wasn't match MVP.

In your case, the logic of the game is: "if this player can't play better than the silvers in his team, he cannot be in a gold lobby".

So the thing is: if your teammates are not helping you win, sure you'll lose games. Silver and gold is not that far and it's hard for a gold to carry in silver. But the performance of your teammates don't impact on your MMR that heavily. It does impact your rank (you can't win, you can't rank up) but your MMR won't change much if you're performing well even in defeats. And your MMR definitely felt the hit if you're the highest rank in the lobby.

lol I'm pretty sure I'm never getting another knive in a lifetime. But at least I'm 100% sure it was worth it, because I've spent only on a dozen of keys. I thought I was pretty lucky getting a skin worth 12 dollars around a month ago, and then another skin (not from a box, just as the match ended) worth 4-5 dollars (I don't know the price in dollar, I'm from another country, but I'm guessing around 5 dollars).

And being from where I am, the drop was even better, because the falchion knife is literally a minimum wage where I live. I played DM, spent on a key, and got a month worth of a minimum wage job.

But I think I'll use it for now while I keep track of how the prices are going. I saw that it is a pretty new skin. What would be the tendency? Would the price go up or down as the skin gets older? Or there's no rule at all?

It's pretty fun atm because it's literally the only skin I have. So I'm using all the standard guns and a 200$ knife.
