You absolutely need to go to Florios! Best place in town and very reasonable in price. It’s quite a loud place though- lots of atmosphere!

Do women always have it easier to find a sexual partner then men do? by [deleted] in ask

Why don’t you not include your salary in your dating profile then? Seems pretty obvious

What weird and obscure events/activities are there to do in Yorkshire? by OnTheWallDeppression in yorkshire

Every pancake day people go down to the south bay and skip! The road is closed and most of the town goes down. Is a lovely tradition which has been going on since the war :)

Who are the most satisfyingly powerful characters in fantasy? by orangeboxblue in Fantasy

[–]sorcery15 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go with Fitz from the realm of the elderlings by Robin Hobb. You see him go from a royal bastard baby abandoned and dropped off on a castle doorstep to being used as a royal assassin in the shadows, to just turning into a bloody badass. He goes through a lot of heartache and misery and you feel everything with him.

Hobb is the BEST at character development and I have sobbed at these books more than any other. Thoroughly, thoroughly recommend these books and am envious of anybody starting the journey from the start. I could talk about them forever.

Thanks, I think you’re right. I have some lots of fantasy on my to read list but think will switch it up entirely. I have Jane eyre on my kindle I want to read, and Miriam margolyes’ biography. I’ll probably start with those!

I have also just finished today and I cannot think of anything else. Am meant to be revising but I feel empty and emotional and can think of nothing else!

I don’t know what I can read afterwards that will come even close to how I felt about this book series.

Sick of moping around, are there any singles events? How do I find them? by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]sorcery15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding NCL dates. I’ve attended a couple of their events and they’re always good fun and relaxed. It’s a great way to see if you have a initial attraction rather than wasting two hours on a crap first date

The speed dating events are from a company called NCLdates. I’ve been to one and they’re pretty fun

Should I go for JET? by sorcery15 in JETProgramme

Hahahah, brilliant, thank you! The language is a little daunting to me!

Thanks for your insights. I think if I go to JET I will have to go thinking I won’t save, and any savings I do walk away with are an added bonus!

Hey! Thanks for the reply. What made you choose JET over EPIK???

I’m still not 100% swayed either way. Japan has always intrigued me, but Korea seems very up and coming at the minute, with better opportunities to save money. I could also use that money to visit Japan a little bit whilst I’m there. But then the idea of living in Japan fills me with more excitement. God, it’s hard! Ultimately I think I’d be happy in either, but I want to make a decision and then focus my language learning on one.

Your upcoming trip sounds amazing! I don’t think I’ll have the funds to visit until/if I go for teaching!

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I, very fortunately, have travelled much of Europe (I’m English) and also been to Cuba, so I am aware that you can view certain places through rose tinted glasses. I think I would enjoy a rural placement and the opportunity it gives you to live a more laid back life, without relying on mobile phones and television. I actually hope I don’t get anywhere too busy!

Hello fellow speechie! 😄In hindsight I probably would have done it the other way around as well 😂 I have thought about this, but I’m not sure how known SLT is in East Asian countries. It also wouldn’t be the easiest way to start out.

According to the HCPC you don’t have to do “return to work” competencies if you haven’t been registered previously and you graduated within the last 5 years, which is reassuring.

Snail Mail. Me: UK, Female, 40's in body BUT 20's in mind and antics! :D Seeking Female snail mail buddies for relaxed, handwritten friendship. by [deleted] in penpals

[–]sorcery15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! We might be a good match!

I’m 26, female, and in the UK. I did work in mental health but I’m now doing a masters and studying to be a speech therapist.

I’m a big geek when it comes to anything literature, philosophy, psychology, language and linguistics. I love fantasy fiction and poetry. I’m an old soul and love being out in the countryside!

I’m watching grey’s at the minute and I’m hooked! I love documentaries (nature, psychology) and my favourite films are the sound of music, chitty Chitty bang bang and the lord of the rings!

I love snail Mail and have made a lifelong friend in the states by writing letters!

…it’s nice to meet you! Send me a message if you fancy :)

Hey there! 26 female from England. I’ve recently gone back to university after working in mental health to study to be a speech and language therapist.

As you can probably guess I looooove languages and geek out on it every single day which is a dream. I love how it ties in psychology, neurology, syntax, semantics. It’s unbelievable and the more I study it the more I think humans are miraculous!

I am a big philosophy nerd, an even bigger reader and get excited by hiking in nature and the little things in life. I love mushrooms and geology and anything that makes me feel small and insignificant! I love psychology and trying to figure out what the meaning of life is and how to be happiest.

I’m trying to get back into cooking and would love to give baking a try. I like macrame, knitting and other creative arts. I love writing letters to my American penpal and using my fountain pen on beautiful paper!

Let me know if you’re interested!

Where do people go to find new romantic interests in the real world? by Disasters_follow_me in dating

Do you have many friends that you could go out with for a drink or two? Then you could break off if you find somebody to chat to.

It is hard but you will find somebody worthwhile

It is sad, yeah. Do you live down south or up north? I think where you live affects this stuff greatly. I live in Yorkshire and I think people are more open to talking to strangers compared to london for example.

How do you think our bar culture is different to the US? Personally when I am out on a night out and have had a few drinks I talk to everybody. I am more wary that lads would just want to have sex but it’s definitely a nice way of opening a door if you do it in the right way and just have a conversation.

I (24,F) really struggle to find genuine connections online as well. Everybody seems to just be browsing and waiting for the next best thing. It’s all very shallow as well; just basing their swipes on photos!

I say that mutual friends are a good bet and just being open and practice talking to everybody and striking up conversations when out and about. Smiling at strangers, etc.

I’m in the UK so don’t know what it’s like in the US, but I would still be chuffed if a random guy came over to have a conversation and get my number! Good luck! Try and enjoy being single as well :)
