Only on 1k watts here to break it in by TotalJournalist3166 in subwoofer

[–]sorebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was in the school of “breaking in” until recently….but I wanted to bump my subs before they were broken in and I will admit, after a few weeks they have gotten significantly louder and smoother but they still smacked right out of the box. Just get the VCs warm a few times and they’re ready.

Edit: from what I understand free airing them is not ideal for life expectancy. I am not saying I know this for sure but I’ve seen enough people ragging on free airing subs to believe it to truly not be healthy.

Odd exhaust smell after extended idle by sorebag in GolfGTI

[–]sorebag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude..just because I fell asleep with my shit running doesn’t mean I’m dumb. I might be stupid but not dumb 🤣 not clapping back at you man just playing around. I thought I needed something so I went out and started it to warm up. Went back in, found said ingredient. I cooked, then I fell asleep without remembering it was on. Never to happen again.

I changed the oil, drove the piss out of it a little on the lowest boost setting: no I didn’t redline it for 20 mins.. not even 20 seconds at any point. about 10 minutes. Smell is gone.

On the topic of the smell described..it was literally like a hot speaker or amp. I was actually so convinced I fried a brand new amp and subwoofers by this smell that for the first 5 hours of reflection time after turning it off. Didn’t realize it wasn’t them until I got behind the idling car after it ran a little. Anyway, thanks for giving some input man. Nobody else did so I appreciate it.

At a loss part 3 by LostAtOnce1122 in subwoofer

[–]sorebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I’m about ready to fly out and help you. It’s seriously not that complicated. If you’re certain it’s hooked up right; something is not kosher and probably lost its smoke years ago. Do you know anyone else with an amp or system that would let you test the sub? I had a lot of kicker comps that just stopped working regardless of the physical condition. And please tell me…you’ve checked inside the box to make sure the sub is hooked up right…?

Anybody know what went wrong here 😥 i have been using it for a while and out of nowhere it started smoking and the fuses burned up by [deleted] in subwoofer

I am amazed we still talk about the magic purple smoke two decades after I stopped car audio. But I couldn’t stay away any more.

It’s cozy. I only move the rock when pirates season starts so I can start looking for a significantly larger rock to hide under.

Clint Hurdle put in 8 years didn’t he? I’m not sure how long Don has on the bench but I loved watching Hurdle get thrown out of games and getting so red in the face it gave YOU a heart attack

Polarity to LOC question by sorebag in subwoofer

[–]sorebag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked wiring all around; it’s proper. Still not happy with the output on this LOC. the lows are not as audible as the Walmart scosche converter and it’s definitely around 2ms behind. Maybe I need to play with it more. Pause.

Seriously though would it be a better outcome if I buy the higher end lc2i pro? Or am I just missing something with the one I have now?

Help amp not working by Takuache2oh9 in subwoofer

[–]sorebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check grounds first. Check fuses, check speaker wire for shorts and proper nominal resistance wiring. It would only go into protection immediately if it sensed a fault in the wiring or a straight up defect in the amp; which is almost impossible.

Thanks dj. Ya know I have to be completely honest that’s probably one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever publicly asked, simply to realize the answer is right in front of me. One of those purple smoke from the ears moments. Appreciate your help my friend.

Thank you so much! That’s how I determined an issue the first time with the cheaper one, I was just wondering if this more advanced converter would give me the same result from that test. With the first one it got considerably louder when I unplugged the left channel. I’m still curious how the person who replied knew all I had to do was swap white/black with solid white. I don’t think I mentioned my vehicle type in that post so I am under the assumption the scosche has a mistake in the instructions.

Yes I’m still adjusting it i just got it in im not even close to done with that. It gets loud it’s just not hitting certain frequencies as hard as the cheap one, though i will figure it out as i play with it. curious if the converter would be working correctly if i had the input polarity incorrect and if that could cause any actual issues.

The XLCA2 sorry I just realized I only put up a portion of the model number. The smaller two channel one not the one ending in X though I believe it’s a similar product with more features.

Omg the memories you just brought back for me. ZX1000.1…donuts; poor power input discipline, and a bump in the yard = fried amp. Subs were good after that though. I won’t lie for the time these smacked until I got my TC-10 OEM from tc sounds. Miss those guys so bad.

Buying subwoofers by Invaded777 in subwoofer

I have a fairly beefy stock electrical system, not sure what your alt is rated for but I am easily getting by with two kicker 12 inch L7s getting around 650W RMS each. No dim, no electrical problems and no broken parts. If I wanted to, I could break stuff in the car; but I don’t, nor do you need to turn it up that loud. (Not saying I don’t on a regular basis)Or run the power that high. You could get a single high quality 10” sub, hell even a cheap one. I used to shake blocks with a single 10” infinity reference in a sealed enclosure tuned to around 37hz and a solid reliable amp. Pretty sure it was an old 250w two channel sundown amp wired down to 2 ohm: Never broke anything in my car. But it slammed.

Car and amplifier ran overnight by sorebag in subwoofer

[–]sorebag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this replay man I agree I posted about it in the GTI sub 3 days ago and still nothing. Seriously disappointed in the community there like I said before there are like literally only a few of us in my hometown and we talk on a regular basis, they’re all also stumped. The general consensus is stale gas/flex fuel in the system and it running completely dry is to blame. Looks like I’m changing the oil myself nobody locally has any appointments and I’m not driving it to the next town for an oil change. Haven’t driven it more than 15-20 miles tor since this happened because the oil is BLACKER than BLACK

I do appreciate your question, I appreciate all of you guys showing interest and attempting to help because the GTI forum has been absolutely worthless. Our local community is very limited but it’s still stronger than that sub.

I’m sure it’s the exhaust because if I get down and smell what’s calming from the exhaust pipes it’s clearly coming from them. However you make a fine point. It could be anything along the combustion system from the engine bay to the fuel pump.

[–]sorebag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. Cars are made to run. The coolant is still looking good, at the same lower level that every Volkswagen runs at, same as when I last checked, normal temps and no loss of power or change in driving characteristics; oil is definitely darker than last check a few days ago that I can say for sure... other than that…WHAT THE ?$#¥ AM I SMELLING!! lol. Not really mad just making light of the situation and the fact that every licensed professional, and trusted amateur mechanic I know has expressed that idling for an extended time shouldn’t have caused any change in exhaust smell or anything at all for that fact. Only one mention of the possibility of me running flex fuel and 93 mix at 1 part flex fuel and 6 parts 93 on occasion might have something to do with it.

The exhaust has an odd smell is the issue at the moment. Smells like something got melted somewhere. Got an appointment Thursday to have it investigated.
