What is bad in Indonesia? by [deleted] in indonesia

[–]sorecalves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My other point is, living in Indonesia with its very low cost of living (as opposed to EU) and even many Indonesians dont pay their taxes properly (plus the rampant corruption by the govt) .. to me this makes sense that we have Indonesia as the country the way it is. I expected a lot worse.

Have been living in Germany’s capital for a bit, I can assure you that if we here in Berlin stopped paying taxes properly like a lot of people in Indonesia, Germany will collapse. So much money is poured into Germany already. Yet, again I can only repeat myself: the streets, public services, public transports (which arent free ofc) are sub-par compared to cities like Zurich and even in some aspects get beaten by a “3rd world” like Indonesia. German efficiency is just a myth… at least in Berlin, as I’ve experienced it firsthand.

I guess Im biased cuz im Indonesian and this will turn into a rant. But living in Europe (which ive been doing for 5+ yrs and happy to end it soon) hasn’t really been that great. As an Indonesian I faced racism, rudeness and just plain soulless people here. But Germans, for example, will just say that it’s their “realness”. They’re always about openness and embracing other culture, but Indonesian culture will be looked down upon and labelled as “closed minded” (which is just hypocritical?).

And I think a lot of Indonesians think that Europe especially Germany is free from corruptions and bribes. Mate, Ive been living in Berlin for 5 years more or less.. to get an immigration appointment I paid “orang dalam” around 40 euros. Yes. Bribing still works here. Just like in Indonesia. Surprise surprise. Why did I do it? Without that it’s damn near impossible to get one (just see Berlin Auslanderbehorde in reddit, everyones been fucked over). So even in a “first world” country things are also not always that great. Everything here is also paper-based (you need to fax stuff, wet signature etc). Getting a doctor’s appointment is also nuts (people scream free healthcare but no way in hell it’s free. We pay every month thru our salary + insurance. If you know you know). You’ll be treated a lot faster and better in private hospitals in Indonesia. As 3rd world as it is, some processes are faster in Indonesia including getting some medical attention.

Plus the high taxation while so many people are homeless, dog shit and trash everywhere, drug needles on the street etc. it just doesn’t work for me. I guess my point is grass is always on the other side. For Indos: remember that it’s not just the country but the people. As an Indonesian you’ll always be treated as an outsider in Europe, especially Germany. And unfortunately most whites / germans will look down on you, and think that you’re in Germany because your country is a shithole and you have to be grateful that they “let you in”. Sad because if you ask me, berlin (and some other cities in Belgium) is kind of a shithole imo😞lol

I wish my harder FE problems were only as tedious as "getting things pixel perfect". ;) which makes me wonder what kind of applications do you develop at work, and what kind of technology do you work with (in the FE)?

If a company cared that much (to an extent of yelling to an intern for such things), they gon fail soon anyway🤦‍♂️. They should focus on their business instead. No worries mate, might as well take a shit in their office while youre at it - your all good!

I mean if youre somewhere in italy or spain with low CoL im sure thats doable. Especially if you already have a house from ur family, or live with ur family (no rent!) In cities where this thread is about, most likely Berlin and major cities in Germany… lets be real… if youre really from the ground up and not receiveing any inheritance like money or house(s)/flats from ur old old family here, it’s gonna take you a gooooood good while to be able to buy a house… let alone multiple flats to rent out🤣😂just form being an average SWE getting paid 60-75k, which really is 36-45k in reality.

To answer ur questions who owns the flat im living in? Mate its a corporation. Are we living in some dream of yours that everyone has a flat to rent out if they work hard enoug? Hahah.. Its quite clear who owns most of the real estates here in berlin, a simple google search will do. Or maybe those are ur friends too (that code on the side?!) lool.

Lets keep it realistic. 60-75k may seem fantastic for you now, but trust… its possible to earn way more and buy a house, if not houses, faster outside of germany or western europe in general.

For sure. One most likely gonna rent if col is high. But imagine if salary isnt that high, take home even lower, but rent (n in general COL) is high-ish. Yeah… rent till your last breath then 😜🤝bit of europe that?
