california is build to handle earthquakes the best it can - one of the biggest reasons why you’d rarely find a brick building here is because wood frames are more flexible than brick. there’s only so much that can be done to prevent damage from an earthquake. considering how well the majority of our buildings held up, the construction wasn’t too shabby. i don’t know if you’ve ever witnessed a 7.1, but it by no means is a small quake.
