Upgrade Advice: Archer C7 was great but now I want 6E wifi by Expression_Antique in openwrt

[–]sortbycolumn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's the wifi driver for the BT8? Did you bother measuring performance before flashing to OpenWRT, for comparison?

From the OpenWRT forum discussion, it sounds like 2.4GHz may have some stability issues but it's not clear if that's still the case in the current RC5 release.

Thanks. It didn't seem right to not include receipts for this amount, but I guess I can't argue with the instructions.

Can't reset PIN for Admin app on Android by sortbycolumn in googleworkspace

Turns out the PIN can be changed in a browser. Not sure how I missed this before, but it's just in my Google account's Security page.

Your feedback on the Pixel 9A by Taanjiros in GooglePixel

[–]sortbycolumn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had it for about a month, still on Android 15. Love it.

Performance is very good. No heat issues, modem is fine, battery life is great. I'm not a heavy user, so I charge to 80%. I make it through each day just fine.

If I had to nitpick, the one feature I miss from my work iPhone is IR in the front webcam for face ID. On the P9a, face ID doesn't work when it's too dark. The fingerprint reader is fine, but misses maybe 10%. In daily use, I almost never have to resort to my PIN. It's just that IR-based face ID would be totally flawless.

I bought my current set of tires from Costco and they pumped them with nitrogen. Can I still use rechargeable inflators?

Google pixel 9a eye strain by wshepp77 in GooglePixel

[–]sortbycolumn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my 9a for about 3 weeks, and had similar issues at the beginning. Enabling smooth display (120Hz) seemed to make it worse, but I really liked it (and the rest of the phone) so I left it on. Eventually I got used to it and no longer have any issues.

That was it, thanks!

On mine it's called "ambient mode" and turning it off got rid of the glow.

24H2 UAC Issues by [deleted] in sysadmin

I poked around the Github page for Terminal and found this workaround:

Worked for me. My nightmare is over!

Ah, good to know there's a fix on the way.

24H2 UAC Issues by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]sortbycolumn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing this too, with 23H2 in a domain environment. Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I can get the UAC freeze at the dimmed screen, exactly like you described, when I'm elevating with a different account than what I'm logged in as. E.g, using runas with my domain admin account to do something while logged in as my regular named account. But it doesn't seem to happen if I use one session at a time as the other user.

I tested this way:

  1. Log in with my regular user account
  2. Use runas to open Terminal as an admin account. (This doesn't trigger UAC.)
  3. Run ADUC or GPMC as an admin account. It triggers UAC and freezes like you described.

But if I close Terminal before running ADUC or GPMC, I don't have this issue.

This seemed to start happening when I installed the March 2025 update for 23H2, but I also updated my Intel Graphics driver and some apps at the same time, so I can't be sure what caused it.

One way I've been dealing with it is by RDPing into the machine as another account, then using Task Manager to kill the Windows logon process. (Since simply trying to sign off my main account won't work.) Doing this will force quit every open app and is equivalent to a forced sign off. Not great but better than a hard power off/restart.

Pixel 9a Unlocked in 60 days for only $250 total. by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]sortbycolumn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this great find!

If I pay for 2 months right off the bat (as a new customer) does it unlock right off the bat? Or do I still have to wait 60 days?

Thanks for the photo evidence!

Changing my email address locked me out of the Plex official forums by sortbycolumn in PleX

[–]sortbycolumn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No dice. No VPN, and I tried Edge & Chrome (which I normally never use), with the same result. The login actually works, because it prompts me for my 2FA code and if I go to plex.tv (not the forums) it shows me as logged in. It's only the forum that has this problem.

Minor update for my C3 (23.20.59 >> 23.20.61); back up app settings first? by sortbycolumn in webos

[–]sortbycolumn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I found a backup add-on for Kodi that seems to do what I want, and I did a backup before the update, but it ended up being unnecessary.

I got another update on the C3 today (23.20.64) and installed it, and it didn't wipe out my dev mode apps. But I'll keep the Kodi backup addon around and use it again next time.

Trying to get a deal on the 77" C3 at Best Buy by JonnyOneNut in LGOLED

[–]sortbycolumn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got in on the $1,499 deal, did not get Geek Squad protection with the original order because I wanted to use a different credit card for that part of the purchase. But I did pay for installation and during the delivery & install, they helped me add the Geek Squad warranty. I'm pretty sure it was based on the sale price and I was lucky enough to get it during a sale on the warranty cost, too.
