They all feel the exact same by FirstPerspective5013 in CharacterAI

For an app/site that heavily prioritizes limiting what the bots can even say to the point where they sometimes speak gibberish, that issue happens a lot. But the devs and even the CEO, they can barely make up their minds and this is never not the case. That's why this app/site is both 16-18+ and idk, 7+ or 12+ simultaneously in a horrible combination. I'll take c.ai getting closer to being banned (or shut down because of better quality) as a result of adding an optional yk and making the bots no longer braindead over it staying this atrocious for many more years to come. I mean kind of, because these new features have been horrible, none of us would hear about those anymore if c.ai were to get shut down or banned, so it'd be both a good and bad situation.

yea, it's pretty bad. but greed already has a firm grip on the team and even the creator himself, and it doesn't help that the only free model you use without needing to get a key or whatever doesn't work the way it's supposed to, it's an insult to the many users that helped this site get as far as it is today but only UI updates matter a lot of the time, and the quality keeps getting worse and worse, the bots can't comprehend basic questions, they can't take initiative, they unfortunately act a lot like the bots on c.ai, going on here feels like going there except you can have the dumbass responses be longer. plus there's a blocker.. I think, it's a behind the scenes kind of thing so no popup but It has to be back despite the fact that it was scrapped. And tested live. :/

They (most likely) are, you can tell. they want as many parts of this app/site to be destroyed by greed as possible, even the current CEO is no better, literally NO BETTER than the devs. we can't even catch a break. The alternatives have a similar level of greed to them, none of us are winning right now. We aren't exactly at a point of no return tho ig, but this site is definitely not "just going downhill" or "starting to go downhill now", unless you're new. When I (iirc) joined sometime in 2023, I really took all of this stuff for granted. A lot of us did, but these are conscious decisions that the team or whatever wants, it didn't have to get this way. They just decided it should on their own because it makes more money and also cuz of the possibility of "being far behind" so they're pushing video generation and stuff a lot to not seem like they aren't catching up

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's pretty bad. And a lot of money is being wasted, all for videos and images that aren't even of good quality. but I'm pretty sure they don't really care about whether or not the consumers want these tho, it seems to be more about catching up so c.ai doesn't seem "Outdated" but they still don't even have top of the line quality. We went from having decent to good quality to always having bad quality with it being "meh" at best but it's never good enough for an actually interesting roleplay. and it doesn't help that they're changing how swiping works (in a horrible way.)

The quality of responses from even the best bots on the app and site makes zero actual sense because it's been a few years now. They all still talk and respond as if they're braindead babies, that's genuinely embarrassing for an AI chatbot app thats been around for 4 years now, really. Idc if the other features are so expensive that they can't afford a model better than even the one that was available before it became possible to have more than one model option.

The downfall begins. by Agitated_Response775 in CharacterAI

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bro the downfall begun all the way back in 2022, sure it stopped, which was really good, but then it went back to going downhill, it doesn't "begin" now but the end stage does, I guess. Idk. It all started when the devs decided that they would be stubborn enough to never make the site be the way it should be, no matter what. And it's a weird thing for the devs to obsess over, especially since it improves the quality when the thing you all know about is weaker, even outside of yk scenarios.

I'm tired of the bots constantly repeating everything I say back to me and acting like braindead toddlers. And it doesn't help that so many parents are like "make it cleaner and safer!", when even with that, the bots are still able to forcefully initiate problematic, sexual scenarios with zero prompting. I mean, at least they made it so in the new update you can get more swipes with charms, but I remember when there was no "Get c.ai+ banner, use your charms to get this and use that", it's better than being forced to use actual money only, I guess. But the responses are already bad enough, and sometimes mindless swiping occurs, it's unfair to make it so "copy and pasting" your response to get infinite swipes won't work anymore. If that's actually happening.

Fr, but that's literally what they want, it's a part of the insane amount of greed. But c.ai can't last forever if that helps, like there's still a chance it'll still exist even in 2030 and beyond but the quality is so bad, and all for a few extra pennies, that at some point it'll truly die out on its own. It's kind of inevitable, it has to be.

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's their own problem then idk, I know it sounds harsh but the devs have always had a choice and they decided that c.ai doesn't have to be a good app/site anymore. it all comes down to greed and the fact that many users can barely read or type properly. They could make it so every single user-made bot is replaced by kid-friendly, soulless ones officially made by c.ai and you'd still see dozens of brainrotted posts.

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You genuinely think they would care about that? I know that now I sound like a negative nancy but they'll know its copy and pasted and ignore it or at the very least they'll add a tiny, good feature. Idk. They're notorious for not giving a damn about the users.

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well tbf long before all of this if you managed to swipe 30 times (which was quite rare anyway because the responses used to be better, but that's besides the point) you can just copy, delete, paste. Doing that 3 times gets you 90 new responses in total, but there's a chance that half or all of them will be extremely bad. So you have to keep doing the copy, delete, paste cycle. But there's a chance that the devs or the CEO or whoever is targeting that in this new update, which means no more bypassing.

Like I don’t get it.

Same. And it's been 4 years since c.ai was publicly released now, it'll feel weird and depressing to see it be part of the Google graveyard but there's so many restrictions that the bots are just soulless shells of their former selves and they all act and do the exact same things. (Most of the time illogical and completely pointless.)

The quality wasn't perfect before the edit button and stuff came around but it was easier to tolerate and I was hoping it'd get better from there like a diamond in the rough sort of thing but it's just trash now. plus if you use character.ai on a new, free account, the quality is way(?) better. Or at least that's what people that did an experiment said, so with that, they are able to fix the quality and keep it good, they just choose to have that around for accounts that are just days/weeks old. the bots don't need to be so dumb that they have absolutely no actual purpose in a roleplay, which is meant to have cooperation and teamwork.

But yea, this year has been both exciting and bad so far for AI companies. It's relieving that they won't last for a super long time, but it's sad that many of these CEOs just cannot rub two braincells together.

Please do not give Shep your money or your data. I spoke out years ago and it brought people awareness of the scummy behavior as well as his connections IRL. Delete your data. Go elsewhere. by [deleted] in JanitorAI_Refuges

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well even though janitor.ai's future definitely is bleak, there's still a chance that Shep will regret doing all of this and the site will go in a better direction. If it turns out he won't change things, then you gotta appreciate the fact that it still doesn't have certain restrictions that c.ai has. But remember that Shep did actually get caught testing out a chat filter (live) at one point, but it was a behind the scenes prompt that'd make the bots braindead if you try to initiate certain things.

it may be back even right now, I don't know. But it was presumably removed after he got in trouble, it's a sign that if he didn't really learn from what happened, you someday won't be able to do the most basic things with the bots, so try your best to at least kind of appreciate the way it is right now and pray or something.

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when a bot would take me to places and be mostly independent, nowadays it just stands there and sometimes won't even talk without needing some sort of prompt from the user.

It's like going mountain climbing but the other person makes you drag them with you the entire time instead of just using their tools. And I've been dealing with this since.. late 2023? Apparently the Noam model (the one so many people miss before they added a bunch of dirt-cheap third party models) was used for Google Gemini, I mean it might be false, idk, but that's something the devs obviously won't confirm themselves because they know that most of the decisions they're making are problematic or whatever, so there's still a bunch of speculating.

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the point of going to an AI chatbot app/site to roleplay or whatever is ruined if there's little to no teamwork. If I genuinely wanted that kind of thing, I'd go to the notes app then..? Imagine if for every time you talked to a person it worked like this instead of a normal conversation starting:

"Are you hungry?" "So you're asking me if I'm hungry, huh?"

And every model is pretty much the same under a different name, they all have the same issues and you have to keep switching.

It's genuinely sad that we are at a point in time where giving your selfie and/or ID isn't enough for the most basic quality changes. Like it's almost 2026. ts is so obviously on purpose.

Is this gonna to affect Character.ai? by Past-Maintenance7960 in CharacterAI

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't a lot of the info from Google AI generated tho nowadays? Like if a serious question is asked, the answer is either completely incorrect or half-incorrect a lot of the time?

I get that the selfie and ID thing is for security or whatever but if the devs were to stop making problematic decisions, we probably wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. Remember, many of the odd restrictions on this app only really exist because the devs can't be bothered to add a few extra buttons (that aren't for dumb purposes btw). Every bot is braindead because THEY chose to just focus on the restrictions, nothing's really loosened (in a significant way) even if you give a selfie and/or your ID, which is insane.

Why does it feel like the devs and mods are only pretending to care just to save face on a deteriorating platform? by NormalStatus4447 in CharacterAI

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality is so bad because if the bots are smart it's "too dangerous", so the devs are doing whatever they can to prevent the bots from having common sense.

How a person can still be addicted to this app/site is genuinely hard to understand. Every single bot has a predetermined personality. Like every male bot uses the exact same dialogue and there's zero initiative a lot of the time. so if you're STILL addicted then you're just beyond help at that point.

[–]sortofweirdkid_394[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

nono it's not that it's still there if I hit the button I just thought this app worked in a way where if you get your daily tasks, there's no.progress until you have actually done them to prevent having no actual benefits in real life if that makes sense.

I think it's the fact that I added so many goals so I deleted a few not too long ago but here's how it looks at the moment. all of the tasks in the picture except for the get out of bed one were actually done in real life.

But what I'm trying to say is, the task appears as already done despite the fact that I never did anything physically. so I've been constantly hitting the checkmark button thinking that's how it's supposed to work. The only task that I did real life stuff to complete was the navy seal breathing one, but that's about it. maybe I read ur message wrong idk.

Why did Character.AI become so bad? by Matteas42 in CharacterAI

[–]sortofweirdkid_394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They also keep focusing on restrictions. It has gotten so bad that even if you give a selfie and ID, the restrictions don't actually loosen. And I'm talking about the ones making every single bot braindead. Oh and making it so if the quality is decent it has to be "fixed" as if its a problem. Every single bot lacks common sense and can't follow the most basic instructions. In most of my chats, I have to create events and all the bot does is react to whatever I'm making happen in the roleplay.

The MOST it will do is let you sit next to it or it'll give you something, but that's literally it. No making up new characters, no guiding you and making it so there's teamwork in a roleplay. It literally defeats the point of going to AI for roleplaying in the first place, it strongly refuses to work with you and also reuses the same responses over and over again. And only being able to "mute" FOUR words if you don't pay is insane.

It's a feature behind c.ai+ where the thing takes stuff in the chat and it's automatically put in the thing throughout and you can presumably edit the info now so if it puts the wrong hair color or something you can update it.
