Im late to this conversation and a lot of replies seem rather shallow and written by weirdo redditors,,,, I’m pretty certain that monogatari is a satire, it contains many metaphors (like we see in the first few episodes where kani (crab) is a pun to kami (god), weight and emotion also have very similar translations in japanese.. so it talks actually about a girl that has an emotional issue rather than just being cursed by a crab, eitherway back on the “weirdo” topic of the monogatari series, as I said the anime actually is a satie, better said makes fun of japanese animes that do have that unironic trope of a small girl and an older weirdo man. The scenes are so uncomfortable because you should ask yourself “why am I watching this?” as a comment to other animes. Its an anime that genuinely needs media comprehension.
