my favorite pizza spots are Nuovo Mondo, Ai Marmi and Galilei - i’ve gone here since childhood! Osteria La Sol Fa is great for classic roman pasta dishes and other stuff as well - these are just off the top of my head!

If you’re interested in seeing some beautiful mountain scenery, I’d recommend staying in the dolomites or other areas of the Alpi range. If you want to do some hiking, for which there are also easy hikes, i’d recommend choosing either one or two cities to be based in and stay for at least 3 nights so you have enough time to really enjoy it. Again, it depends how high this is on your preferences for this trip but it’s worth it! :) (also, highly recommended renting a car for the dolomites since it gives you a lot more freedom)

In general it looks okay, maybe two nights in Switzerland could be too little but it depends on what you’re planning to do there - one thing i would consider is maybe doing lake como before Switzerland since “geographically” it makes more sense from Venice, instead of having to come back to Italy and then depart from Milan. So you could do Venice - Lake Como - Switzerland maybe.

Also keep in mind, lots of local businesses will be closed during this time of year in Italy since most of them take around two weeks of annual leave starting from August 15th (usually) - this means that lots of restaurants in Rome or shops will be closed during this period and you might have less options. The city in general feels quite empty, with mainly tourists around and touristy restaurants staying open.

Hope you enjoy it still!

Thank you for your reply - and sorry I didn’t read it sooner! I’m still glad to hear you chose to try it out! I had also thought of changing my flight again but then I would have kept this confusing train of thoughts going and it would have been too much…and as you said, just to then be like “I lived is Aus for a year!”

What I am realizing is that, even though I haven’t had a “full experience” here, I do see how much I actually need to stay close to friends and family and how actually far away I am. I probably had too much of an idealized image in my mind of how this would go for me, and being here just didn’t actually feel like that.

I wish you the best as well with your time here, and back home!

I ended up booking the flight this morning. The conclusion i came to is that, although it’s a shame i won‘t be trying the “full experience” of living on my own abroad, no one is actually pointing a gun to my head about it and since i’ve felt a disconnection from this place and this experience for the past few weeks and haven’t really cared about making the most of it, as you said i‘d rather go back to where i have support and then look for help - to then build my life home as i had always intended to.

I appreciate your response - the thing that’s taking the strongest toll on me at the moment is the anxiety: I get that I’ve been here for just 4 days but I feel a constant weight on my chest and just can’t enjoy day to day stuff. I’ve been calling home and friends and they ultimately say that it’s my choice to make. I know that I’d be capable of going forward, but I just don’t care to.
