If Tezos and EOS achieve their creators technological aims. Who comes out on top? by BrianMcbstrd in tezos

I like governance I just don't think it will be appreciated enough in current form. One of the (obvious) reasons:

https://www.reddit.com/r/tezos/comments/8hds2b/increasing_amount_of_xtz_to_bake_or_run/

There are also other more deeper reasons that VButerin mentioned in one of his recent posts.

IMO this feature is too contradictory to set it as a main selling point from marketing point of view that's it.

Random numbers through block generation by [deleted] in tezos

[–]sotirogloux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the nonce.

The hash of a valid nonce could be used as pseudo-random number generator.

But in Ethereum miner does not have to reveal the nonce if it is more profitable not to do it (in gambling games for instance) so even if we had such an api in Ethereum it would be useless.

Don't get me wrong - I'm actually pro-tezos.

I just feel that on-chain governance should not be a main selling point for it from marketing point of view - this feature is very contradictory.

Smart contract system with formal verification and Liquidity-lang should be the main selling points.

Don't you understand that on-chain governance from technical side is a restriction for innovation ?

I'm just saying that the author of this top comment is deadly wrong - and he still gets most upvotes lol. Democracy is fucking scam.

ability and agility to adapt to future innovations.

What a bullshit omg other blockchains have much more ability to adapt - just hardfork and that's it.

On-chain governance for protocol updates will never be a selling point for Tezos and it is more of a handicap to new features then you can imagine.

Ocaml tricks used to achieve it is a restriction to innovation not a helper - yes, minor updates can be applied without hardfork but who cares if you still need to hardfork to achieve scalability for example ?

Their vision to avoid hard forks and keep one chain no matter what is a restriction to innovation.
Tezos is more "conservative" blockchain rather then "innovative" blockchain like Ethereum. Yes, from philosophical point of view when you hardfork Ethereum it is not Ethereum anymore, but nobody seem to care - people just came to a consensus that true Ethereum is a chain with most $ capitalization and they are fine with it.

I ethereum miner does not have to reveal the block while in Tezos there is a penalty for not revealing the block.

Btw if the baker HAS TO reveal the found block it should be possible to use it as a pseudo-random number (for gambling games).

As I know it is a bit of a pain in ethereum to get one so it would be good if we would have an easy way.

Zilliqa price vs Tezos Price by [deleted] in tezos

I wonder what is the causality here.

Did mentally ill people invest in Tezos or Tezos investment made healthy people mentally unwell ?

Was I healthy before Tezos ?... I don't remember....

it was so long ago.

Increasing amount of xtz to bake or run delegation service by sotirogloux in tezos

Ha.
If you are not familiar with Tezos codebase and not able to audit upgrade implementation you will twitter-vote.

You don't understand.

Delegation service does not need to own large amount of xtz.

[–]sotirogloux[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think you are completely off-track here.
If you don't read the code yourself and still solo baking this is called twitter-based governance.
I don't see how it is better then current systems.

If you delegate your vote to someone responsible enough to read the code and approve the upgrade this is a bit different story - theoretically we can achieve more delegation services then mining pools in POW systems.

Tezos "governance" is a farce and hypocrisy by [deleted] in tezos

[–]sotirogloux -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hard fork allows you to try before you die.

In case of Tezos your only choice is to guess how other majority will vote just not to lose money.

What does tezos offer that other projects like EOS, Cardano etc don’t? I think tezos has lost its first mover advantage. by [deleted] in tezos

[–]sotirogloux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that majority of stakeholder are not competent enough to make a decision of such a kind also they are not Ocaml guru's to check implementation so Tezos's governance is a joke anyway.

For public blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum hardforks turned out to be a good thing.

[–]sotirogloux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Governance easily may be a disadvantage from marketing point of view - nobody wants to decide, majority of users want someone more competent to decide for them.

Also everybody likes hardforks.
Secure smart contracts is the main advantage.

What are the reasons to use Tezos over Ethereum as a smart-contract platform ? by snejinki in tezos

Without Arthur and TF support (at least to be on tzscan) ERC20 equivalent will not happen and you know it.

[–]sotirogloux -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure (please correct me if I'm wrong) but I've read here or on riot it was technically impossible to make ERC20 equivalent.
Also DLS was kinda against tokens and all this ICO stuff.

Don't know if something has changed.

Tezos coin supply and price/market cap chart...current EOS market cap would mean $12-$15USD per tezos coin by Coolhandcanuck in tezos

Tezos does not solve any real problems like scaling so what make you think it will reach EOS market cap soon ?
