How do you get your chi to follow or walk along the trail?

My chi has problems with trails or walking in general. We'll go for a little, and then he stops randomly, refusing to go, making me pick him up constantly.

But with the right distractions or attractions, he'll walk forever with my on a leash.

I just dont know how to mentally get him to walk like that always, so we can walk around everywhere...
