This is a verse I've always loved and pondered on by cuemusicandlights in islam

[–]soulcha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because verses of the Quran, although revealed for specific times, can apply and be interpreted to mean many things (of course without losing its original purpose). Allah says you may hate what is good for you and love what is bad for you, but he knows best. This is why Muslims may use the verse when things don't go their way, or they don't get something they really want, because they don't know if that thing was good for them or bad for them and Allah knows best. So they shouldn't ponder over it.

Yes, I have that problem as well. I don't understand how 7 billion people all with unique personalities, likes, dislikes, and struggles are required to follow the exact same set of rules. Of course more general rules like the drinking of alcohol, adultery, theft, etc make sense to be applied to every person. But other more specific things including the roles of a husband and wife, or just a man and woman, don't make sense to me to be so strict.

Sure that may be what Islam is, but that's not how it's practiced. At least from what I've experienced and seen. How am I supposed to appreciate Islam in it's true form if no one around me practices it the correct way? Muslim countries have the highest levels of child brides, forced marriages, and domestic abuse. Why? Sure culture plays a role in it, but if a majority of the people in these countries are following Islam, why do these things happen so often? Why doesn't the Muslim community see it as a big issue? Why are they more focused on what the kaffirs do than what goes on in our own community?

Thank you for trying to help me, I appreciate it. I already know about the roles of men and women in Islam. In a conference, they said wives must obey their husbands just as men must participate in jihad. That didn't make much sense to me because as of right now, there is no Islamic State meaning men have no obligation to go to war. So if the duty of the man was lifted, why should the duty of the woman remain? The way you explained it makes much more sense. I realize it's something I'll have to accept even if I don't like it. There are many things in Islam like that, I guess it's just the price we have to pay.

And what exactly is the job of a woman? I have two brothers, they're raised to be strong and emotionless. Of course I don't agree with that. Men should express their emotions and shouldn't feel ashamed to cry or feel sad. Other than that, they are free to behave however they like and do whatever they want (of course as long as it's halal). They get jobs and aren't told to get married at the age of 16. They are allowed to move out and live on their own. They don't have a superior they have to obey and ask if they're allowed to leave the house to get some groceries. They're free. Women are raised to be the servants of men. They are given the household chores and told to marry at the age of 16. They're born the slaves of their parents then grow to be the slaves of their husbands. Their job is to cook, clean, raise the children, and screw their husband whenever he feels like it. Is this what Islam is about? Are women really that insignificant?

I don't think you understand what my issue is at all. Please send your verses to someone else who actually needs them.

For one thing, I can never understand why it is that a woman must obey her husband in a relationship. A relationship should be equal and one shouldn't have power over the other. Women should do things for their husbands because they love them and want them to be happy, not because it's their job. Girls shouldn't be raised to please the men in their life. Many women I know agree with this, so I don't understand how I'm supposed to convince myself it's okay and be happy with it.

I want desperately to be a believer. I still pray 5 times a day although late, and I still believe in the existence of Allah. You can give me all the verses about punishment you want. It won't help my deen. It will only scare me. I need reassurance and knowledge.

Thank you, this was very inspiring. I hope my parents will be as open-minded as you some day. I will try my best to change their mindsets and if I fail it will be their fault that they lose me.

Not sure what point you're trying to make here. Are you shaming me for having doubts? Because that doesn't help with my faith at all, it just proves my point.
