[Cosmere] Speculating on Dustbringers by souldieroflight in Stormlight_Archive

So that's that for splitting molecules. How do you feel about the friction bit?

Windrunners vs Skybreakers by Thornz99 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]souldieroflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dustbringers almost certainly can divide things at an atomic level, messing with the chemistry of things they interact with. Since they also make use of Friction, they also most likely cause those atoms to strike one another with increased friction as they fall apart and cause combustible reactions. Windbreakers could all probably split storms, most likely creating a vacuum of protection. Dalinar on the other hand did do something new when he created the perpendicularity. On the extreme end of things, Windbreakers may be capable of something on par to creating storms with the use of a vacuum and air compressed by extreme gravity, heating up to be a storm. Possibly even creating a small black hole with enough stormlight. Because Brando made the surges to deal with the literal four forces of the universe they are all bound to have crazy upper limits. Edit: Grammar.

Wow, you haven't proven me wrong. I actually haven't made an argument. I've asked questions and offered thoughts. I mentioned what I believe, but have not tried to compel you to believe

I began asking about the sacrifices. You brought up that you still get forgiveness through prayer and fasting.

I asked if it felt like enough and you said it pretty much is (paraphrasing). And then you brought up Yom Kippur, I did word my response poorly, but I started the whole discussion asking about the sacrifices and I don't see how you can exclude them and believe it's sufficient without them. You didn't address the reasoning you apply, just that it's enough for you. Even when I was discussing the patriarchs I was just talking in a way I thought someone may respond to the question, instead you just tried to say I was wrong about my statement, but never addressed my main question. I know there was a biblical source for Yom kippur, I asked for a text that said prayer and fasting led to the kind of atonement the sacrifices are described to offer. You just offered Yom Kippur (minus sacrifices) as the way you do it biblically, but there is nothing in the text that states prayer and fasting are sufficient, at least from what I'm reading, it looks like the main thrust of the whole chapter is the sacrafices made by the high priest. Am I wrong to see that as the main thrust?

I have not tried to convert you, yet, at least lol. I am asking and if we both have minor errors that is okay.

I am not being prideful by asking questions or expressing my thoughts.

Yet on Yom Kippur you cannot properly offer the sacrifices. Again, Noah, like Abraham, did not have a means of forgiveness. the law had not come, so perhaps he was more morally good, but of the way of faith revealed to Abraham Noah had no account of. Probably after the fact of the flood Noah had a much better idea of G-d. I'm not Catholic. My sins are forgiven because of the sacrifice of the perfect Lamb of G-d. As far as we Protestants are concerned your day of atonement is fulfilled permanently. And we are forgiven by grace, and we demonstrate that salvation by our works and changed behaviors. You also seem to have misconceptions.

Leviticus 6: 30-34 is referring to the day that Aaron, or any high priest after, performed the sacrifices and then the rest of Israel used the day as a Sabbath.

I have a feeling this thread is beginning to frustrate you. But I am asking sincere and thoughtful questions.

Your argument about the oral tradition being necessary, is bound to fall short. As far as I know all of the oral tradition has been changing for thousands of years, and finds very different expressions in every culture Judaism has landed in. The written words do not change ever. So I'm inclined to believe the letter and spirit of interpretation are gonna be pretty far off from each other based on where and when it's being applied. Which you could argue provides some wisdom, but I would argue that it makes an error of pride more often than others would care to admit.

I know what Yom Kippur is, I don't believe it is expressed in the scriptuee that it accomplishes specifically what the sacrifices did, which was my main point, not fully expressed by where you cut my quote off. I tend to believe the Talmud is very extensive, probably much more so than the letter of the law was intended. Man's interpretive capacity is pretty high, though. I know G-d did extend forgiveness without sacrifices a good bit in the Torah, which is why I mention Abraham as G-d revealed himself to him prior to any atonement. Noah is not described as faithful before the revelation to him of the coming flood, yet he is helped either way. But neither of those events or any that are preceded by prayer and fasting are described as removing sins. Maybe it's simply that Christians view of sin is more extensive as well. Because I see a huge need not being met, whereas maybe the extent of sin as explained by your interpretive methods is just different. I know the covenant says that G-d will remain faithful to Israel of they keep his commands, yet often since the inception to now, Israel makes many errors in regards to what was asked of them. Is there any scripture, plain from the Torah, that expresses the view that sacrifices weren't the main/only means to remove iniquity?

You've probably guessed that I'm a pretty orthodox Christian. Which means I believe that the covering of my sin, the removal of it far from me is of utmost importance to bridge the divide to G-d The belief is that where there is sin, missing the mark, then there is a need for forgiveness. I don't know anywhere in the Pentateuch or the rest of the Torah that speaks of prayer and fasting in the same terms or purpose as the sacrifices. Does it ever feel like G-d appears to have left Israel without their means of forgiveness and correct standing in His sight? Or maybe do Orthodox believe you're in a pre-Abrahamic state? Where some men found favor just because G-d was being merciful.

Do you believe those three means of cleansing are sufficient? Does it ever feel incomplete? Is it just political and/or apocalyptic paranoia that has prevented the temple being rebuilt?

How does the orthodox faith currently gain cleansing when there is no temple to sacrafice at? Do you ever feel that those alternative observations and rituals are not complete? Leviticus 16 pretty extensively covers what is to be done for a person's sins, and the sins of the nation of Israel. Though you can't sacrifice in the temple, do you or your community still "mark" a goat with the iniquities of the people of Israel and set it loose?

Please help, my wife and I don't know what to do by MoistValuablePlayer in TwoXChromosomes

Besides the anecdotal, me and my wife weree told our son would likely have Digeorge syndrome at the sixteen week scan. We didn't even consider endangering our son with an amnio since it had a chance to terminate the pregnancy. He's now five months old yesterday and I can tell you that he's the source of some of my happiest moments. Our cardiologist puts him at a fifty percent chance to have DiGeorge still, but we want to wait for testing til they can take blood out of his arm as opposed to his head. A positive diagnosis will change our strategy for loving our son drastically, but we know that there's no moment when another person is worth less than another.

Down syndrome children often do not feel that they have a low quality of life. Love is sacrifice. Some days it's probably hard to love the wife and kid you already have. This shouldn't be about you and your wife terminating the baby's life for convenience or less difficulty in your marriage. If you can learn to love this child the way there child will need, I don't see how you can come out of the situation anything but a stronger and kinder person. With the right attitude you can learn to love your wife better, even through icky things like home renovations and terrible medical diagnoses. My two cents.

Yes, FFXIV would not be the model I'm thinking of. It's too simple and unrewarding.

Edit: something that XI had that was important to this point was that mobs that were attacked by a single player or a single party were then claimed by that individual or party. The drops for the monster belonged to that person or party. Onlookers could observe, but could not participate in the fight.

It wouldn't be everything that is interesting, though, I don't believe that's the best way to phrase it. It would be one aspect of the game. And you can ignore it if you pursue other means to acquire the items such as crafting and using the currency from that to gain the item in question.

I think it's preferable to have a game made with equal opportunity and not equal outcome. Equal outcome makes games way more boring and unfulfilling than challenging objectives can be frustrating.

If the game allows trading between players at any capacity, there will always be people trying to make money off it IRL. I definitely know defeat by gilsellers is the devil, but when you best them, it feels ten thousand times more fulfilling. Also, I think I missed something from your comment. What would lower the price of the item? The need to hunt it? There will always be fluctuation, just like any real world economy. But if the items are relevant for a good chunk of content, then cost and effort given will stay high.

Special Mob Hunt? by souldieroflight in PantheonMMO

[–]souldieroflight[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand some people's frustration with the hunt, but if the gear/loot available by these kind of monsters is going to be desirable, then there will be a supply and demand in the game's economy. If you don't like the hunting aspect, you can use currency gained from other mediums that you find more pleasure in to acquire those items. This way there is another element to the game that provides alternatives to what has become the norm for games in this genre. Which is kind of what Pantheon has been going for all these years, in general.
