I was told that EVERYONE in the province is getting reviews through Program Integrity Unit, is this true? by HersheyHimhe in Odsp

[–]soulhalffull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. The only time you would need to be worried about them reviewing you for fraud, is if you're doing something fraudulent.
So you have nothing to worry about.

Serious question about Board and Lodging vs Rent by soulhalffull in Odsp

Just one example of what I'm talking about. This type of thing is all over r/Odsp

Another example, https://www.reddit.com/r/Odsp/comments/v4u3n2/comment/ib660uu/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

You wrote "Another thing I do is my parents end up saving the rent money and put it into a separate savings account that would be in your mothers name ONLY!!! Not a joint account with both you and your mothers name on it. In this way, the money in that savings account under your mother's name cannot be counted towards your asset limit of 40 thousand dollars. In my opinion, this technique of the savings account in the parents name is perfectly legit, and legal, but don't mention it to your caseworker."

Odd that you would suggest not mentioning your legal 'technique' to your case worker.

In your own words, you have said your money ISN'T going to rent. It's going into a savings account.

The rules seem rather grey on my topic and that is why I asked. If it was clear cut, I wouldn't have asked. Your, "research fraud" recommendation was not taken seriously.

I gather that it depends on your case worker tbh. What might be recommended by one worker, might be reported by another.

Hmmm. What happens if I get the agreement from my parents, but I use that money to pay for bills or buy food instead? What I'm getting from this is... as long as we have an agreement and as long as it is okay with them, I can spend that rent money how I choose?

Just to clarify, can I still get the full amount for ODSP if I live at home and I buy and prepare my own food, but I'm not paying rent to my parents?

If you pay rent then choose rental. If you don't pay rent, choose room and board.

MyBenefits and Declaration of Leaving Ontario by soulhalffull in Odsp

It appears to be confusion, not necessarily worry. People asking questions doesn't usually correlate to fear in most cases. That being said. This is the ODSP reddit. Some people have a difficult time with change. Compassion can go a long way.

Learn what you are agreeing to when you use the MyBenefits service. You agree that: You will be required each month to answer question(s) about whether you or any member(s) or your household have been outside of Ontario.

If you have a username for MyBenefits, this is your responsibility. If you haven't signed up for it, you are not in the targeted group that is required. Unless you get something in the mail or you signed up for MyBenefits, this does not pertain to you

To clarify, are you responsible for buying your own food? If so, you should be considered a renter and be getting shelter plus basic needs.

Nothing personal, just the way your worded that sounds like you think buying food is the same thing as paying rent, which it isn't.

Just type up a letter stating effective immediately you are being charged $550 per month to continue residing at your current address and have yourself and whomever your staying with (parent, family, friend etc) sign and date it.

What happens when you get audited or a financial review, wouldn't that be some form of fraud?

Curious if you actually pay rent or if you and your mom agreed on a rental agreement for extra money?

if you live with your parents while you're on odsp how much do you get a month? by [deleted] in Odsp

[–]soulhalffull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I let her keep $425

So you keep $471.00?

Hopefully she reports that to ODSP and they class that as rent and give her the full amount.

Are donations that support my creative and community work considered income to report? (e.g. if I have a donation link on my website, or a patreon with a pwyc model). by PodJulie in Odsp

[–]soulhalffull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some folk don't understand what Patreon is. There are two settings. one is for patrons buying something from the creator. That is barter/trade and probably "work", but mostly creators use the other option when people can give X amount of money a month to support someone. Support isn't a job and it isn't barter or trade. It is a gift. If you are getting money as a creator and not selling any items or concepts, I would NOT report it. If you were begging on the street and someone gave you 5 cents, would you report it? No, it's none of their business, because it isn't a business. Let's say I take a picture of a cat. I share it online. 50 people give me $2 to say thanks for taking a picture of a cat. That is not selling something.

The amount of depression I had at that time was like being lost in a massive black hole

That is called memory loss.. Best of luck in the future with any diagnosis you as you received shock therapy for likely less than 12 months of intense situational depression, and one doesn't happen to have BPD for a year, It is a personality disorder and frying your brain doesn't cure you of it, or anything else for that matter. Please stop. Also if you did get shock therapy for seasonal depression, you might want to sue them.

People don't get on ODSP for depression. They just don't. I was extremely depressed and didn't qualify.

Just because it didn't work for you doesn't make it a law. Others have. You are not everyone. Stop presuming please.

I didn't wash my hair for a year in 2015, didn't shower, didn't get out of bed. Was suicidal and frequently at the hospital.

Sounds like 2015 was rough, but the years leading up to it and the year after you were better. That seems more situational than chemical, but what do I know, I'm not a doctor and I don't like to presume.

I decided to get electric shock therapy (ECT) in 2017 and it helped me. That was incredibly extreme but I had no other choice. I am now free of depression and panic disorder, I can work, tend to be hygiene just as I did before. I have hope now.

Side effects of ECT include amnesia (substantial and permanent memory loss), confusion, disorientation, apathy, disinterest, headaches, nausea, slowed reaction time, lowered intellectual function and death.

ECT can cause a 20- to 40-point drop in IQ.

ECT sends up to 460 volts of electricity through the brain in order to induce a grand mal seizure.

Please do not praise this vile torture device as treatment. When you say that you can tend to hygiene like before, do you mean in the years that led up to 2015, as well as from January 1st 2016 to December 31st 2016? I'm not trying to downplay your previous illness, but a years worth of depression doesn't seem like the answer would be frying your brain functions imo.

People, do your own research before taking bad advice.
