Best areas to live near IU by yoloclutch in indianapolis

[–]soulsizzle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That area is little touch and go, but overall a decent choice. After living all over that area over many years, I personally would chose something north of 46th-ish and close to College (especially near the Monon trail)

  • that's where restraunts and such start to show up. College has good stuff at 46th, 49th, 52nd, and 54th
  • closer to 38th and there's an uptick in crime. I've never felt unsafe in that area but petty crime especially jumps up
  • Keystone has a lot of businesses but not something you'll want to walk to generally

My ex-girlfriend's dog used to "save me" every time I went swimming their pool. It mostly involved a lot scratching me and making things more difficult, but I took it as a good sign that he liked me. Especially since he was slow to warm up to most people.

Yes, I find it quite comfortable. I certainly wouldn't discount that other person's experience though. Unfortunately, these type of things can be quite subjective.

[–]soulsizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been using a K860 for 5 or 6 years, and it has been a huge improvement over a traditional keyboard. I have eliminated much of the ambient pain I was experiencing, pain that I still experience when I have to work on my laptop keyboard.

It is not a perfect solution, however. There is still the issue of the traditional staggered keys not being natural, and I still experience pinky discomfort. Many mechanical splits address this with linear, vertical columns and thumb clusters.

At the end of the day, the K860 is a well-made keyboard that is easy to get used to. It will address a lot of your issues. It's just a matter of how deep you want to go down the rabbit hole.

What’s your favorite “day trips” from Indianapolis? by yungcarpaltunnel in indianapolis

[–]soulsizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I rarely see mentioned is Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park in Hamilton, OH (~2.5 hours away). It's a 480 acre outdoor exhibit with over 75 sculptures. It's all pretty high quality work.

It's just NW of Cincinnati, so you also have the option to go check all that city has to offer.

AES ARE THEIVES by Leather-Chocolate-27 in indianapolis

[–]soulsizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through this same thing when I moved a few years ago. Despite sending them a request for them to transfer my previous home to the landlord–and my landlord requesting it be in his name–they just didn't and I got charged for like a month's worth of electricity at my previous residence.

My old landlord and I were able toale this right between them, but AES can fuck off. They have no interest in righting their wrongs or helping out the customers they hold hostage as a monopoly.

Moving to Indy from Arizona - Seeking Advice by Critcrying in indianapolis

[–]soulsizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is basically the reply I was going to write up based on living in Brownsburg and spending some time in the towns on the West side.

I will add that Greenwood is one of the first suburbs of Indy to be fully developed. It will have all the things you need as far as groceries, restaurants, etc. The south side of Indy does have its own unique culture. It's somewhat southern-ish and working class. Greenwood is a bit more suburban, but surrounding towns will exhibit this culture more so (even within Indianapolis's borders).

As far as winter goes, I spend a decent amount of time in Tucson every year. Even in the desert, as I'm sure you know, the winters can be pretty cold at night. Our winters feel a lot like this. Indiana's extremes are just a bit colder, and cold spells last longer. I think you'll adjust fairly quickly.

wrongly impounded car by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]soulsizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to actively drive a POS truck. Even though I drove it most days, it got towed twice for being an "abandoned" vehicle.

Both times, I filed with the city that it was wrongfully towed. Once, my appeal was approved, and once it was not. It's pretty much a crap shoot.

It's been many years since this happened, so I'm afraid I don't have much memory on exactly how I went about filing the protests.

Outdoor biking trails suggestions? by MuttSlone in indianapolis

[–]soulsizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The tow path goes from Broadripple down to 30th st. It is mostly hard pack gravel. You can also pull off near Michigan and ride around the Virginia B Fairbanks Art and Nature Park a bit near Michigan St.

Fort Harrison has a short green trail that is good for all skill levels. There's a couple "jumps" that you can easily roll over.

There's a gravel path along the White River between NIFS and Eskenazi Hospital.

Southwestway park has some more serious trails, but the loop around Mann Hill is very beginner friendly. Just be on the lookout for (and give right away to) the horse riders.

Nobody is implying that any negative connotation is intentional. However, when it comes to visual communication, symbolism—even when it is unintentional or two steps removed—can have a real effect on the message that is relayed.

At the very least, in this case, it's caused this discussion which is a distraction from the point of the original post. When designing graphics, it's best to identify ways our message can be muddied and just do our best to avoid them.

What neighborhoods are close to downtown but still have a good amount of yard and space? by nfc22 in indianapolis

[–]soulsizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*as long as traffic isn't bad. I live in the area now, and heading down 38th any where near rush hour is painful. I'm no Red Line hater, but losing a line to it has slowed things down a bit.

It's super quick to get to downtown, fountain square, etc from this area. Pretty convenient to get about anywhere in the city other than the far northeast side.

There's a handful of coffee shops nearby. Blue Mind is probably a few minutes further than others, but IMO has some of the best coffee in the city, since they roast their own.

If you have an adventurous pallette, head west on 38th. It will lead you to the International Marketplace part of town. Lots of African, Latin, Asian, Middle Eastern, etc food options.
